Description
If my versions of the TSOS cast, both canon and original characters, had voices, who would voice act them and what characters would they sound like? I've dabbled in this question before when I did the first version of my meme game back in Early 2020, and I said I had the intention to make more for more characters...but with all the updates and additions to the cast, I decided to return to the old list and expand on it, rather than make more than one of these things, which a few changes here and there as well as new characters to join.
Another update with new characters and updated old ones. Decided that I'm going to divide these voice actor games by cast position: in this case, the main cast of the Saga of Spyro series.
----------------------
Spyro/Jendovahzoor - N/A (Tom Kenny) - Fang (Himself, edited). Without question, the biggest and most notable 'Fan-Adaptation' of my fan series 'The Saga of Spyro' is changing Spyro the Dragon from a old-school cartoony video game protagonist into a primal beast more akin with the more animalistic dragons/dinosaurs of media culture, complete with more animalistic/draconian thoughts, personality, and behavior based off of media's most iconic dinosaurs and dragons. And one of those changes that I've decided to engage in is the idea that 'The Voice Humanizes the Inhumane'; that giving a normally-animalistic creature a human voiceΒ 'humanizes' them, which really effects and outright damages the image of a non-human beast that many try to portray. Plus, words and talking just muddle thought and expression, taking away from the experience of the emotion and feeling in the scene (the early marvel/dc comic books were a prime example of this). Genndy Tartakovsky's Primal is easily my favorite animated series of all time, and is a wonderful example of animalistic characters that can connect to the audience without having to say a single word; it has zero dialogue whatsoever, yet the body language, facial expressions, and animal vocalizations are more than enough to convey thoughts and emotions. And such, I've decided to follow example and make Spyro a primarily non-speaking character, to keep to the idea and expression of the more 'primal' dragon I'm trying to write him as. There will be a few times he will speak, but only when absolutely needed, and thus such moments will be very rare and far in between. And when that happens, it'll be an older, more 'reptilian' version of Tom Kenny's original role; think of it as a mix between Reignited Spyro and Smaug from the Hobbit movies (the latter being a very rare example of a voice not ruining the image of the beast).
Hunter - Robbie Daymond - Himself. The Reignited Trilogy REALLY nailed a voice for Hunter. One I was familiar with as the same voice as Ty the T-Trux in the Dinotrux series, so I was far more familiar and accepting of his new voice than a few others were...so there was no need to change it from the game.
Elora - Jodi Benson - Ariel. This one left me conflicted. Ariel is easily one of my favorite Disney characters of all time, and I had chosen her to be Elora's voice actor back before Reignited was a thing: Ariel's voice was a perfect match for the playful, sisterly character I had written her to be at the time, not to mention that singing voice is to die for...but then Reignited came out with a perfectly acceptable voice and a personality that literally matched my version of Elora to a T, leaving me very conflicted over which voice I wanted. In the end, my love for The Little Mermaid won out and Jodi Benson stayed for Elora's voice actor.
Zoe - Pamela Adlon - Vivdia. I am NOT a fan of high-pitched fairy voices in cartoons and movies; they grate on both my ears and my nerves, making me hard for me to connect to the character. While the Reignited Trilogy avoided this with their version of Zoe, I had already made the decision to give my version a deeper voice that contrasted most fairies in media. But for the longest time, I couldn't find a voice I was familiar with, until one day I watched one of the Tinkerbell movies and Vivdia's voice just clicked; after all, the two characters were both fairies of very similar personality (a connection that I only recently made, as I hadn't seen a Tinkerbell movie before that day in years). After that, the more I wrote dialogue for Zoe, the more Vivdia's voice began echoing over the words in my head, so I decided to keep it as her official voice actor.
Professor Mole - Christopher Lloyd - Doc Brown. Come on, now; there was no better voice to choose for a old eccentric scientist than that of the legendary Doc Brown. I've pictured the Professor with Christopher Lloyd's voice ever since I watched the Back to the Future trilogy and Piranha 3D (the latter of which I honestly enjoyed more, monster movies being my thing and all). A bit cliche, maybe, but I'm sticking with it.
Moneybags - Milton James - Himself (Original Version). As good as remakes/remasters can be, sometimes there's something to say for the original. As well-done as the voice actor of Moneybags nailed the role in the Reignited Trilogy, it doesn't have the nostalgic charm and humor of the original. Milton James will always be my Moneybags.
Bianca - Melissa Hutchison - Herself. Same story with Hunter and Moneybags: both Original and Reignited versions of Bianca had the perfect voice nailed already. No need to change it.
Elizabeth Brisby - Elizabeth Hartman - Herself. This was a character whose voice I didn't even consider an alternate for. Elizabeth Hartman (Rest In Peace...) truly and utterly nailed the role for who is, in my mind and heart, the greatest embodiment of a mother's love in all of fiction, and there will NEVER be another that can even begin to compare. So much so that I have followed most of the fandom's example and gave Mrs. Brisby the first name of Elizabeth for my fanworks, in honor of Hartman's memory.
Valentina - Annapantsu. - Anna's Best Roles. I said in my previous version of this that finding a voice for an OC from scratch is one of the most difficult things for a fan-art creator to do; unless you make the character with a voice already in mind, it is a bitch and a half to find a voice out there that feels like it would fit the 'voice' you have set in your head, if you even have one in the first place and aren't just content to hear your own voice over their dialogue. Originally, I went with the most 'fitting' voice I could find with her previous version, but as time passed and she gained her redesign, I decided to pick a new voice. One that was not only more ranged in emotion and pitches than an old-school anime dub, but one that more people would be familiar with. And I found it in Annapantsu, one of my favorite Youtuber Song Cover Artists, who has an amazing and diverse voice that feels far more fitting with what I want Valentina to be, and thus the choice was made. Simple as.
Team Lilac - Their Cast of Freedom Planet 2 - Themselves. The original cast for the Freedom Planet Trio needs no changes, and don't have any potential future competition for the role. Dawn M. Bennett, Andi Sida, and Aimee Smith nailed their respective roles as the three girls that would make me fall in love with the series, start the Megapack Project for Gmod/SFM.
Mario/Luigi/Peach/Bowser - Their Cast of the Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023) - Themselves. Sorry, previous ideas for these characters, but my mind has been completely made up. The recent trailers for the Super Mario Bros. Movie have completely blown me away. I can't begin to describe how much I truly love these interpretation of the characters and the world of the Mushroom Kingdom that I'm seeing in the trailers alone, and I can't wait for the movie itself. And to those STILL whining about how much they don't like the voices/designs of the movie, go back to drinking out of your toilets, since that's all you seem to be able to taste things as; I get the appeal of the original voices and how good they are for the games, but there's a big difference between brief game vocalizations and the script of a full-length movie. Those voices would get super hard on the ears super fast, to the point they could ruin the film. Nintendo made the right choice casting REAL voices for them.
Hat Kid - Cathy Cavadini - Tanya Mousekewitz. Remember the good old days? When children in animation were voiced mostly by women doing their best to intimidate a Rugrats-ese role?...Yeah, me neither. If there's one thing I really can't stand, it's adults voicing kids, especially in this day and age when child actors are a lot easier to come by (MLP, for example). It always sounded WRONG to me, like some condescending adult doing the baby voice, which it literally was, and it grated on my nerves. However, there are some exceptions of really good amongst the piles of the bad, and one of them was my choice for Hat Kid's voice: An American Tail: Fievel Goes West was, and still is, one of my favorite movies of all time, and one of the many, many things that made it so was the mind-blowingly amazing musical score (once again provided by the amazing James Horner) and the songs, thanks most in part to Cathy Cavadini's performance as Tanya Mousekewitz. I'm still swept away by her version of Dreams to Dream to this day, and I honestly can't think of a better voice I would want to have for my take on Hat Kid, the video game hero who helped me fight through my cancer.
Doom Slayer - Matthew Waterson - Himself. To be honest, I originally dreaded the idea of Doomguy having a speaking role; it's a unavoidable fact that voices humanize whatever speaks with them, which I felt would ruin the presentation of the Doom Slayer: an unmovable, unbreakable force of nature that sacrificed his humanity to destroy the very forces of hell itself. Then the DLC for Doom Eternal dropped, and for all the things they messed up for the amazing game that Doom Eternal is on its own, there was one thing it did that really changed my mind. That one line in the very last cutscene, when Doomguy simply blows the Dark Lord off with a simple 'NO.'...damn, it gave me goosebumps! It certainly changed my mind regarding Doomguy being ruined if he had a voice, when he had a voice that was much a force of nature as he is. So yeah, two thumbs way up to Matthew Waterson; changing my mind on a topic isn't an easy feat, and I salute you for your amazing (if rather small) role.
Cartoon Cat - Tom Hardy - Venom (First Movie Only). Most of the fan-works I've seen of Cartoon Cat usually portray him with a higher-pitched, nasally toon voice, like Bugs Bunny or the Animaniacs. I understand that this is a fitting vocal setting for the monster, but I've never really been a fan of high-pitched villain voices; from the start, I wanted something different; something deeper, darker, and not as cliche. Originally was going to go with Caleb Hyles in an animation I saw on Youtube, but after watching the Venom movies for the first time, I found a voice that was FAR more fitting for what I wanted Cartoon Cat to be (at least the voice in the first movie; second movie's good, but it loses a lot of the beast in its more 'human' tone and fluctuations).
Malefor - Benedict Cumberbatch - Smaug. A choice that honestly speaks for itself. Whereas Spyro would've had a mixed voice between Spyro and Smaug, the original was obviously going to Malefor, the Dark Master himself. A voice that truly captures the essence of the beast without losing it.
Royal Magister - Edwyn Tong - Himself. - It's amazing how quickly you can go from liking a character to hating them, and this was exceptionally fast. After playing Freedom Planet 2, I have lost almost all of my previous respect for the Magister. Not only does the douchebag attempt to justify the FUCKING GENOCIDE he and his people were involved with, but actually has the balls to try to compare Lilac's past of trying to survive to it in an attempt to defend himself against her! That complete and utter bastard! He can go back to having your old voice actor; he doesn't deserve to have the voice as Mufasa.
Sonic the Hedgehog - Ben Schwartz - Himself (Movie Version). Call me a member of the minority here, but I am not a fan of Roger Craig Smith's voice for Sonic, especially in later games and the Boom series. It's callous, emotionally-uninterested, droning and outright lifeless at times. Like a moody teenager groaning his words through puberty, believing himself 'too cool for the crowd'. And people wonder why it took me so long to open up to the character, with THIS as his most common version. The Sonic Movie did a FAR better job at creating and voicing a character that felt like an actual person, with actually feeling and emotion in body, action, and voice. A character far more likeable and even relatable, someone you feel for and connect to, far more so than Mr. 'Too Good for the Crowd'. So while many may not agree, I'm going with the verison I like the most, and anyone who doesn't like it, well boo-hoo for you.
Sally Acorn - Katherine Ellen Soucie - Herself (SatAM Version). I'm sure a lot of you in the 'diverse' Sonic Fandom ask this: "why Sally as the main female Sonic character of your series?" She is a nostalgic fan favorite for those who are longer-term sonic fans, true, but for someone who's just gotten into the series relatively recently, why choose her over the more iconic ones like Amy, Blaze, etc.? Well, she IS nostalgic to me...though not in the same way one might expect. It's true that I've only started getting into the Sonic games/cartoon's this year, but I had known Sally's voice actor from a much earlier time in my life: in the form of Tilly from the Little Engine That Could movie; an old animated mini-movie that, as short and simple as it was, was still one of my favorite childhood movies. And for that, having being voiced by the same actress as one of my childhood heroes, Sally earned herself the spot as my favorite Sonic Girl from that alone. Her striking resemblance to Elora, one of my favorite female video game characters, just added to my favor.
Dr. Ivo Robotnik - Long John Baldry - Himself (AOSTH Version). Why AOSTH Robotnik, you ask? Because ASOTH Robotnik is Best Robotnik and absolutely nothing anyone says will persuade me otherwise, that's why. I don't dislike Mile Pollock's performance. It's very iconic and fun, and would easily be my second choice. But Baldry's performance as Ivo Robotnik has to be one of the best old-school supervillain roles I've ever heard. So nostalgically bold, over-the-top, boisterous, and passionately villainous! It's hilariously amazing and just so much fun! They just don't have villains like that anymore; everything's all 'serious' and 'real-world' nowadays, and thus finding the old-school series on YouTube was a real breath of fresh air for me. And Baldry's gave a full 200% with that performance; he could've just done a stereotypical bad guy's voice and that would've been enough, but he poured so much emotion, passion, and enjoyment into the role, and loved every moment of it. I don't care if its not the fandom's first choice; AOSTH Robotnik is the most fun and enjoyment I've had of the character in the entire franchise, and he will always be the Eggman I know and love.
