Description Ultra Fractal 5.01 for the main fractal, however it was then rendered in Terragen for lighting and colouring.

I personally still classify it as a fractal, but if needed to be moved, I'll move it.

Anyhoo, tell me wotcha think

EDIT: REGISTERED TERRAGEN, so I re-rendered at 5120x3840 then scaled down to 2560x1920

Hit download for 2560x1920, and enjoy the now non-blurry image

I like the fact that is has such depth and dimension. It reminds me of a half-buried ruin or monument.

This is an awesome idea. The execution is... well, not as awesome, but isn't that always they way it is when you are first trying a technique?

Anyway, the main issue here is the image quality. In full view, it manages to look pixellated AND blurry. Now, I'll admit that don't know anything about Terragen. Seriously, nothing. I don't know if there is perhaps a way to fix render settings to make it all nice and crisp and smooth... but what I do know is that no matter the program, rendering large and downsizing is an almost surefire strategy. Case in point: the thumbnail to this looks awesome.

If I were you, I would render this about 10 times as large as you have now. It's huge, I know, but it could be worth it. I have no idea what Terragen's rendering times are like or if this would even be feasible... but I hope it would be because I would love to see the results.

Summary: It's an AWESOME idea, an awesome new, innovative technique, but artistically it looks like you still have to work out the kinks. That's completely understandable, since this is the first time I've seen this done. I can't wait to see it get refined.

Oh, and for what it's worth, I also agree that it is still a fractal.

Thanks
Much appreciated advice ^.^

I did want to render larger and scale down, but I don't have the registered version (Yet..)... so the max size I can do is 1280x960

Registered, I think, has no limit.

Definitely still a fractal, but I'm not sure why it's so blurry...

hahaha..to me it looks like a texture , but if Chris says blur then it's blur ...

It's 3D, sticking straight out at you. With blur added, I guess. Same program I used last night to make the terrain for my project!

1px. Guassian blur.
Without it, the shadows were extremely jagged.

1 pixel and I notice the blur. Ahhh, oh well. I would have liked to see even more shapes and complexity in here. It looks like it's too far zoomed in, but I know Terragen is only so large..

Hopefully, as soon as I register Terragen, I can fix it with some proper antialiasing
