Well done on the shading! I like what you did with the background. Scrutiny will show that the far background is a photograph but it's enough to give support to the the character. I think it's quite good. Youve put the effort in where it matters and saved yourself time and headaches where it's not so important. One thing I'd like to see with this piece is a more gentle transition from tail into torso. However, I know that there is some stylistic preference at work here. Some artists prefer to have a sharp transition, some prefer to fade the scales into flesh, and some put scales all the way up. Just my suggestions

It's not a photograph; just texture brushes with a layer effect thrown in for realism ^_^

This was my first time trying to color any sort of transition to scales effect but I will certainly take your suggestion to heart for further tries :3 I think a smoother transition would look good as well : D
