A drawing I did late one night. I was watching Fullmetal Alchemist, & had a Starcream Transformer beside me (from Transformers ROTF), & I was inspired by both Starscream's tattoos & Scar's (from FMA) tattoos. So, I drew this. It's obviously meant to look somewhat mechanical, & the mech-Ouroboros & cross were an obvious nod to the "God" part of "Dues Ex Machina". In all honesty, Ouroboros & the cross were an afterthought. The cross came in handy for covering the hole the compass put in the paper, however (you didn't think i did the big circles freehand, did you?), so I'm pleased with the end result. Tell me what you think!!!*update* As of November 28th 2010, two people that I'm aware of (they contacted me) have gotten this design done as a tattoo. Just thought I'd post that little tidbit*

I find it amazingly attractive. Anyway, i'm running for president in my school and I was searching for a symbol to represent me and my mates. I was specifically searching for something of the sort!

I definitely have this tattooed on my chest. I don't know if you do requests but I would like to come up with a half sleeve to match this tattoo. Every one I talked to commented on how unique this style was and I'm hooked now

This is a great design, man. I use this as an avatar on some sites. It's awesome, and makes me ashamed I do not have the ability to creat complex work like this, lol! I was thinking of getting a tattoo of this!

Hey, no problem. I've honestly been looking at this design for quite a long time. About a year at least. It's just everything I look for in mechanical designs like this. The balance is great too, nothing strays my eye away from other parts, and can see it as a whole everytime.

I know the original meaning of Deus Ex Machina, but is this implying that immortality comes with becoming a living machine?

lol no, it was more me having fun with a design. Ouroborous means alot to me, and has alot to do with what i believe. Not immortality, more like the clockwork of the universe. The cross in the center has multiple purposes -1, I like crosses and it helped cover the hole made by the divider XD -2, The cross could be seen as a sun symbol, adding to the clockwork-of-the-universe/solar-system bit. If I were to do the design now it would change a great deal...which I'm not tempted to do, come to think of it lol
I must say, this is one of the more serious questions I've ever had asked about one of my designs

When you stop think about things that some people dismiss, you realize that there are a lot of answers to those kinds of questions. Thankfully, most of them are interesting, in my opinion...
Speaking of serious questions, here's another. I've always heard of the generic, "Becoming more than Human." What came to my mind about that was, "Is it really HUMAN to become more than Human?"

hmmm...i suppose it wouldn't be. Because then you're outside the definition of "Human"...for example, adding machinery that improved you in some way (for arguments sake, let's keep out artificial hearts etc that simply function as a normal human organ) would be suddenly making you more like a cyborg...albeit with human parts too, but you've still changed beyond "Human" standards

I'm more focused on the Morality part, however. You could look like the freaking Iron Giant, but the Human heart, mind and soul should always stay intact. Otherwise, what are you but a monster? Also, I've come to think that we seem to be pairing the term "Humanity" with benevolence inappropriately. You don't have to be of the same species to show compassion, or cruelty. To say someone isn't "Human" because they don't look like one is ignorant and foolish... Just putting that out there, though.

oh i agree completely. hence why i said the morality was a tricky aspect, because our morals are in constant fluxx. 50 years ago spousal abuse was ok, etc etc.

I fell in love with this so hard I'm having it tatooed on the balls of my shoulder in conjunction with my FMA Scar tattoo's I can show you the full artwork on my arms and shoulder's when I'm done. Thanks for creating genius, true genius.

LOL. l'cie are humans chosen by a falcie(god) to do a mission every l'cie has a tatoo that marks wich god are they serving and a summuning spirit that IT has give them (all the main characters are l'cies)
