I am super excited for Shin Gojira. Ever since I first watched Neon Genesis Evangelion when I was 13, I had always thought Anno should direct a Godzilla anime. But Hey, a live action Godzilla film by him is the next best thing! I know he'll be able to convey the spirit of the original 1954 godzilla but do something completely unique with it. (and from all the spoilers i've read, it seems he has.)
I was planning on making this a little more action oriented with missiles shooting towards Godzilla, But I felt it negated or at least downplayed the hopeless feel I wanted to convey. I was trying to channel a little Noriyoshi Ohrai, but I don't think I was successful in that. I referenced the conceptual Maquette for the pose.
I'm planning on going back to this and making some changes after I see the movie.

I've seen footage of this Godzilla in motion.
It actually kind of hurts to look at him.
Unless my memory fails me; all of the other Godzillas, even the 1998 Zilla, started off as a creature of some sort.
Be it some sort of amphibious creature or a godzillasaur, they were already fully formed before being mutated via nuclear radiation.
This new Godzilla, Shin Gojira, had no pre set creature.
He is a being almost solelyΒ comprised of nuclear mutation.

He's a culmination of millions of microoganisms that fed on nuclear waste for over 60 years and ended up becoming the most advanced organism on the planet capable of adapting to any environment and can live anywhere on the planet so long as there is air and water.
So in a way he did have a preset form, we just don't see it in the film.

Sorry to say that I don't know who that is :/ I know they just confirmed that there's going to be a Godzilla anime though. I wish I were more excited than I really am. I feel like the late '80's-'90's would've been the perfect time for a Godzilla Anime. I honestly don't care for most modern Anime. The medium (for the most part) lacks personality since the shift to digital technology I.E. Lineart doesn't properly utilize line weight, Color pallets tend to be bland (despite having a virtually endless supply of colors), Jarring blend of traditional animation with (Sometimes unnecessary) CGI, and rich moody atmosphere tends to be sacrificed in favor of "pretty" lighting. There's exceptions of course, but they're few and far between. I hope it turns out well, but I'm not expecting much.
