Heheh, well in my case I remember when it was one of the only anime airing on television at the time, and they replaced it with Thundercats , which is to be honest, not my type of series.
I also liked InuYasha, though I haven't gotten around to finishing the final act.
As for Naruto and Bleach, they felt too generic (especially Naruto), it's like the characters were made using a character generator that didn't provide a whole lot for base options.
But the biggest problem I have with shows like Naruto and Bleach, is that out of 200+ episodes, about half of them are pointless filler, and the other half is battling the strongest warrior in the universe (through the next opponent will be twice as strong).
Naruto in particular has a problem with reusing a lot of the same plot lines in different episodes, even several of the movies are rewrites that have been used in at least 10 or so episodes.

DragonBall Z practically invented that, and most (not all) Shonen Jump series seem to follow that basic formula, as if their trying to be the next DBZ.
One series that could have been really good, but over kills that sort of thing, is Shingeki no Kyojin.
It is one of the only shows that I can think of that will stretch a 2 minute scene into 3 episodes.
To make it worse, every episode has a recap at the beginning, which goes over the events in the last few episodes.
But it doesn't stop there, every 12 episodes they recap the entire season to that point.
And if that's not enough of the same, they have 2 movies in the works, that are recaps of the first season. O_o
Ah Ranma is a great show, and I enjoyed Slayers, though I haven't watched any of the ones that followed Revolution, as the color scheme kind of irritated me.
I'm still planning to watch the ones with Naga, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
Since you like Slayers, you might also like Rune Soldier (Mahou Senshi Louie), as both take place in a fantasy world and are slapstick comedies.
The first time I remember seeing anime was in the early 90s, and I was fascinated by the style, as it was like nothing else I had ever seen.
In 1999 my cable service added Cartoon Network, which introduced me to: Sailor Moon, Ronin Warriors (Yoroiden Samurai Troopers), DragonBall Z, and over the next few years:
Outlaw Star, Gundam Wing, Tenchi Muyo, TriGun, Yu Yu Hakusho, InuYasha, and the list goes on.

There are times when here in Hungary a channel takes the courage to give only anime shows but they always got worse, only airing like 3-4 animes and always the same seasons and repeating them, and later (before the last one died) aired hows which weren't animes at all! And what they aired before they ended? DBZ, Naruto and Bleach (1-2 seasons only) Sometimes Slayers (Evo/Revolution) and Kilari nothing more.... No Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Kill la Kill, or the never ones. Not to mention some classics which were popular in Europe in the democratic countries: Space Pirate Captain Harlock, Space Battleship Yamato, Ranma (I've watched it in german!) etc...
So I've decided to download them and watch them on TV, with english subs and original japanese dub.

True, television has always been fairly limited with anime here, though it has been opening up over the last decade.
About all of the anime I watched at first was through Cartoon Network, the Sci Fi channel advertised that they were going to air anime every Thursday, but after about three or so weeks, they dropped it.
In 2005 I shifted to online anime, the first one I remember seeing was Shuffle!; though I still watched shows on Cartoon Network, by 2007 pretty much everything I watched was either online or through DVDs.
Earlier this year I bought a Roku device, which has several channels that include anime, in particularly: CrunchyRoll, Funimation, Manga, Netflix, Hulu, and one other channel that I can't remember the name of.
The nice thing about the Roku, is that you don't have to pay for anything, aside from the services that your already paying for, like WIFI and channels that come with a subscription.

True. ^_^
One of the problems in the U.S. is the major television providers do not represent their consumers, and want to overcharge on everything.
They also give discounts to new users, and send the bill to the old users.
