By the looks of it,it seems to be an Agano class,if I'm correct that is. I could be mistaken.

Yes, you're right, she is Agano-class. There was four of them, if I remember well: Agano, Noshiro, Yahagi and Sakawa.

Yes! Seems that I'm getting better and better at identifying IJN vessels.

Really? If I remember well, I haven't even thought about the mood of the picture. I just drew the piece of steel and some clouds behind it. It's strange, isn't it?

you picked the right clouds and colors for the background behind that lump of steel then

You only draw ships that were existed or newer weres too which only existed in the design stage?

U-Joe In reply to Tzoli [2012-02-26 15:55:53 +0000 UTC]

For the present I draw only formerly existed ships. I think it's more interesting, and somebody some day can use them as illustrations for their books or articles about naval history. Also, I usually use plastic models which help me to draw. And not a single model manufacturer produces models of ships that never built. So it will be difficult for me to draw such ships.

But if you have some sort of idea, please tell me.

I see.
Well that is not always true as there are models of the A-150 aka Super Yamato or the British N3/G3 designs. But you are right there are few of those. I could provide with drawings and you could use your imagination and the experience you gathered.

But what I have in mind now is a battleship Franco wanted for the Spanish Armada. Essentially a repeat of the Italian Littorio's but with removed secondary triple turrets and twin 120mm Spanish AA guns instead of the Italian singel 90mm ones. I've made a line drawing of it as how it could looked like in my opinion:

And what happened with this Spanish shipbuilding program later? It has just cancelled?

In terms of drawings it looks executable. But maybe it will be more interesting to draw Littorio class battleship itself?

Tzoli In reply to U-Joe [2012-02-26 16:49:20 +0000 UTC]

Well it was cancelled as the Spanish economy was in ruins after the civil war.
You could find it here:

Franco's plan included 4 of such BB, 1 Cruiser which I've got a coloured drawing here as well as it's stats and other versions:
[link]
Similar to this there was the Project 131 Heavy Cruiser and 124 light cruiser which would give the screening for the battleships
Project 124 CL:

Project 131 CA:

All of them are Italian designs

As for the drawing:
Well for first that would be a good idea to draw the Littorio.

Thank you for the information. It confirms that Franco was wise man. If he would started on of these shipbuilding programs, then Spain, drained of resources by the Civil War, would call down the wrath of the Allies.

Unfortunately, in this half year some circumstances force me to draw only some ships (and maybe planes) of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Any other plans and ideas must be put off.

When I've read that forum, I took an interest in Spanish destroyers. Some day I'm going to seek information about them.

Lovely! Sea Trials in 1944? Must have been a trial by fire for this vessel.

She was scorched by fire in the Battle of the Philippine Sea and Leyte Gulf. And she was completely burned down near Okinawa. You may read about last months of this ship in the book 'Japanese Destroyer Captain' written by Tameichi Hara, the last captain of Yahagi.

You might also want to read 'A Glorious Way to Die' by Russell Spurr, about the final days of the Yamato (and the Yahagi as well).
