I've heard some stuff about AI lately. Being the paragon of curiosity, I just had to try it for myself. And naturally since I abhor making actual effort in any and all things, I'm gonna embrace this amazing new technology for my art making. It's like living in the future, where robots do all the work and where I just laze around all day.

Jokes aside, I can see both the good and the bad with this new technology. After testing and thinking about it, I have identifed some pros and cons of this technology:

The good:
AI may serve to democratize art to an extent, even those with no artistic talent may use the technology to create quick art for their projects. Instead of relying on other artists to create for them.
The AI is relatively simple to use. Just tell it want you want to see, and it will try to give you a matching result.
AI may help artists with creativity. Unexpected results from generated artwork may inspire artist to build upon them.

The bad:

The AI isn't creating pictures from nothing. It has to be "trained" on a buch of preexisting artwork. This may lead to blurred lines on copyright infringement or art tracing accusations.
Related to the previous point, AI may lead to extremely derivative art since it can only create out of its limited visual library.
Artists may get less work or commissions if customers instead turn to AI for their art needs. entire market segment may be lost.
As you may see from my examples, the AI does not produce perfect art. The AI is a machine and does not actually know what it is drawing. Occasionally you get very weird results, body horror weird.

I also do believe that, for better or worse, AI will only become more integrated and accepted as a tool for art making. AI will also continue to evolve, we are only seeing the first steps of what the technology can do, it will become easier, faster and smarter.

Finally I'd like to say that art has always been reliant on tools and tehnology to create and improve the craft. Old artists used the Balopticon or Camera Lucida to trace art. Nowadays we have advanced 3D poser programs to help create references. Other programs allow us to photobash and animate much more easily then we could even ten years ago. AI is simply another tool in the box for the artists of today and tomorrow. (I say, clutching my trusty lead pencil)

For reference, these pictures have been made with an AI called Stable Diffusion installed locally on my computer. The entire process for generating these images took around one hour, where most of the time was spent on figuring out what lines to feed the program.
