Sehr gutes Foto!

It seems too be inspired by the ancient Greece.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

UdoChristmann In reply to BillyNikoll [2017-03-05 08:55:01 +0000 UTC]

It is a Greek temple. Paestum was built around 600 bc as Poseidonia by Greek colonist and 274 bc conquered by the Romans and from that one called Paestum. It stay a Roman city for more 700 years before become abandoned.

I had the chance to visit some great sites of the Greek civilization
but only in Turkey for a school travel, it was a great experience !
I saw Ephesus, Hierapolis - Pammukkale, Aphrodysias and about
10 other sites more or less well-preserved. I will definitely return in Italy
some day, there are so much fantastic places to visit in this beautiful
country !

You know, I almost thought this was a Greek temple. But then again, the Romans borrowed their mythology so I guess it was justified.

HydromelKing In reply to TheLaughingGiant [2017-03-04 19:36:58 +0000 UTC]

This is because it's a Greek temple, it belonged to the ancient greek city of Poseidonia.
Greeks had colonies all around the Mediterranean basin and some of them were located
in the south of Italy and in Sicily like Neapolis (Naples), Syracusae (Syracuse in Sicily),
Rhêghion (Reggio di Calabria) or Poseidonia (located on the site of Cappacio-Paestum).

TheLaughingGiant In reply to HydromelKing [2017-03-05 01:17:59 +0000 UTC]

Thanks a bunch. Is Poseidonia called that because the citizens worship the god of the seas?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

HydromelKing In reply to TheLaughingGiant [2017-03-05 02:05:50 +0000 UTC]

I don't know the story of Poseidonia but Neptune is the roman name
for Poseidon, so I would say that it's obvious the citizens had
worshipping him and he was probably the protector of the city.
