Oddly enough, I have read that well restored - i.e. dismounted, cleaned [of the casting residues that some still had in], remounted properly with some modern accessories and filled with the right coolant, not simply water - they are actually pretty decent and reliable motors. 

It's just that B.L. couldn't manage to do a proper shake-up of its production line.

I think the problem of B.L. was that they had no continues quality standard, lot belongs of the day they where built. Maybe as well not continues quality of their sub deliverers
