Description West of Minot, North Dakota, it is 1792'/546m long and 117'/36m high. Originally built by the Great Northern railway as part of its Minneapolis-St Paul to Seattle main line, it now forms part of the BNSF northern transcon from Chicago to the Pacific northwest.

It's the reason why Minot became a city.  They call Minot the magic city because it kinda appeared as people kept coming from the east and was the end of the line until the causeway was completed.

I have read the same thing. It's also the location of Gavin Yard, built by the GN in the 1950s and still in use, though not as important as it once was.
