Description Forty years after the death of Ulario, the defeat of the dark god, and the fall of the verin empire, The Theran species have earned their rightful place among the stars with the Azura't'oris Alliance.

For over a decade, Andromeda served as a royal guard to the first Theran Senator, but when Risight Mur, the head of the guard betrays the alliance and orders the murder of the Senator.

Loyal to the last, Andromeda refuses to carry out these orders. Risight frames her for the senator's attempted murder and she is labeled a traitor to Thera and the alliance.

Outcasted from the very alliance she swore to protect, Andromeda must find her place in the Azura't'oris universe.

-=-=-=-=-=-

I've been doing some work on the "next generation" part of the Azura't'oris universe, obviously. And for that, I needed a hero for that part of the timeline... an alternate fursona if you will.

Andromeda (Andy for short) is a Theran Gryphon. She is isn't even born until around 10 years after Ulario's death. She is a warrior, still loyal to the alliance that turned it's back on her.

Meh. I wanted to give her a more original name for her... but I couldn't get "Andromeda" out of my head. She is named for the galaxy rather then the figure from Greek Mythology so it fit her very well. Much more then an original name could I think.

I spent a lot of time designing the physical appearance of this character so no stealies! Keep your sticky fingers to yourselves, please.

I hope to have a character sheet for her eventually. I'm busy with commissions ATM, but since I am planning on using her as an alternate fursona, she will have one.

This doubles as a comment/critique:

The work you have not just here but your overall portfolio is absolutely breathtaking, mastered and fantastic! I love how you are willing to share your art through books, a good friend of mine Anne Stokes (devart ) had her work published in Fantasy Art Today, released in the Americas. This picture is very seductive yet wonderfully crafted.

Now for the Critique:
Your work is up there with tons and tons of the finest artists, which I will admit is a big plus. I am no where near the current caliber to begin even imagining doing commissions let alone for major profit. The one thing that caught my eye that was slightly disturbing was your commission prices. for the average joe these prices would make one flee. I know they did for me (no offense intended). I was looking at a close friend of mine that actually just got done doing a special commission for my girlfriend and I. She charged 20 dollars for a piece similar in design to this one. Typically her commissions of fully digital painted product runs 35 dollars + 5 dollars or so for each additional character. She settled for 20 dollars since it was a special valentines day gig.

Sadly I do not know your personal predicament as I actually was forwarded to your account from the #TransformationClub, and your TF works are kickbutt too btw! However your commission pricing has a lot to be desired especially in today's economy. I want to again stress that my critical eye does not detir from the work at hand, your art is exceptional and magnificent to view. My suggestion is you map out who normally commissions you and see what works best for those who wish but can't afford. I'm not trying to say commissioning for profit is bad. If I was a better artist I would do that in a hearbeat! But look at it from my perspective, and you can see what I'm talking about.

I do look forward to seeing more work from you in the future. Please take my critique as a learning tool, not a slander. And I do hope the best for you in the future.

Most people on this site do art for fun or a hobby.
A hobbyist can charge cheaply for their art because they usually have another job to fall back on or are just looking for some extra spending money.
I do this professionally. As a professional artist, I rely on my art to pay bills to put food on the table and therefore I cannot afford to do commissions for $25 a pop because it simply does not give enough money to live on. The bottom line is, professional artists ARE expensive. My prices are relatively reasonable considering that this is my job... I've known professional artists who charge $300+ for a pencil sketch.

Consider it this way...
It takes me about 8-10 hours to do a picture from start to finish. If I was charging $30 a picture then it would be less then $4 an hour for me to do my job. Minimum wage of my home state of Michigan is over $8 an hour, so I would be getting paid less then half of minimum wage.

Please do not compare my prices to other artists as it is the responsibility of the individual artist to decide what their art is worth. Each artist puts a different value on their art depending on time involved/personal feelings/etc.

I am aware that not everyone can pay for my art, which is why I do offer cheaper options such as ACEOs to give others who are not as rich a chance to buy my art.

Professional, I can understand that. I guess I can consider myself then proven a point.

I apologize for any misunderstandings I may have caused as I do not like to create enemies on sites like this.

Continue doing what you do best, and I will be with the others in awe.

Sincerest Apologize,

Gazing upon her and reading the brief captioning of her history, I could not help but wonder: Why? Why had I not noticed this before?
Making a simple and quick decision, I scrolled up the page, found the button labelled Add to Favourites and clicked it.

Your tale is off to a good start. I want to know more, what happens next? By all means mix your fantasy with your sci-fi, it makes for good results. And Andromeda is a fine name.

I wonder what your hero will turn out to be. At the risk of sounding like a shameless promoter, you can reflect on some of my work, though, like you, you can't steal it. Take a quick look at the back covers see what you think:

Okay, this is pretty cool actually, but i must ask you, the picture looks like it belongs to a fantasy realm, but the story sounds more sci-fi ish. Were you trying to go for a scifi fantasy aspect?

Overall I do believe you did well with proportions.

That is one way to make the name fit XD

...after the death of Ulario,... Well...I have seen what you tell to some person, but the death isn't an often part of virtual live. The question is: what to do with dead characters?

Anyway, so this character is now your main guide for your world as Ulario was?

Curiusome question: are constellations names the same in Theran as in our world? I cogitate if is someone in your world called "Sagitta"

Good to know I'm not the only one letting their fursona die. Although mine returns as undead but that's another story...

I REALLY like the outfit. It looks like it could stand up to more abuse than the older outfits of... decades? ago. And I like how the feet aren't the big clunky Lion King-esque feet I see just about everywhere else.

Ulario In reply to komera [2009-06-16 21:14:30 +0000 UTC]

I had a little head-scratching over the outfit... and had several ideas mulling around in my head. I even considered giving her sci-fi armor... but I thought that even in the future, Therans would want to maintain some of their heritage.

On a side note... hmmm... I may have to try dressing her in sci-fi armor at some point.
