This makes me think of those 40 y/o moms that have their child dress conservatively and the moment they hit 18 they bring their kid to hot topic and then proceed to live vicariously though them. I love it.

Think the 2et outfit worked more for a classic urban style. Maybe loose the shirt fitting in the front for more cover and onto the shoulders, then have no gloves.
First one looks more like a royal wedding outfit.
3rd looks like she's looking for guys as Misty said.
Last one that got pick, makes her look like a young church girl. The large robe-like and loose clothing.
I wonder if there's any backstory to clothing design in this time?

I'm sure there is, but which culture of alien it might be, who knows! Although I can at least tell you these clothes were designed by an alien critter that specializes in making clothes for creatures with Starlight's type of legs. It's hard to walk with most normal human clothing, so these sorts of skirts or tight-fitting designs tend to be what is most comfortable for heavily thin digit grade legs.

Misty certainly points that out pretty clearly. At least her mother listened to her here And they all came to an agreement with the final choice.
