Nice colors. I like the glint of light on the samurai and how you can tell how bright the sun is.

This reminds me, I should try and learn digital painting...

Wonderful analysis. The sun was the toughest thing to do due to the light playing off many surfaces, so I'm glad you appreciate it. Β All the best in digital painting and you're always welcomed to ask me questions if you wish.Β Β

I can only imagine how difficult this must've been. Strong lighting, rocks, metallic surfaces... all those things give ME trouble at least.

Thanks for the kind words.

ROCKS! Yea they're HARD to draw to me as well. Especially the crystalline variety. Combine crystals with lighting and it becomes maddening to paint accurately. No worries and keep at it. Β Β

(lol pun)
Glad I'm not the only one who has trouble with 'em I guess. Argh, crystals. They look cool but...

Totally relate to the difficulties of drawing rocks. Grass is so much more fun to draw. I really enjoy drawing grassy landscapes.Β  Β

I have yet to find a simple method for drawing grass.

I really enjoy drawing metallic surfaces with pen for some reason.

Pen drawings? That's cool. There is a sorta permanence with pen that I do not appreciate. Haha. maybe I'm just too used to the ability to undo my strokes in the digital format as opposed to using a pen.Β

Β

As for drawing grass, it's basically stroke after stroke after stroke. Tedious, but you'll learn to enjoy it as it is simplistic. I can be half awake but still draw grass due to the mundane concept of it. Grass is fun to draw.

I like it because it doesn't smudge like pencil.
But I will only do digital coloring, since the Undo button is a great invention.

That's kinda why I like shading metal. You just keep making lines until it looks sharp.

Ooo interesting. It's cool to talk to someone about another medium for once. Normally the discussions I get all involve digital paint and stuff. Do you have a specific brand of pen you like to use? Or are you fine with any pen you pick up?Β

Painting anything never has been my skill, so I'm interested in your art.

With pens, the cheaper and worse the better! Those are the only ones that you can really shade with.
I do all my lineart for digital drawings on paper though. For that, I have a better pen I found in a basement. It's low on ink so it draws finely.

Ok actually that makes sense. The lighter pens are used for shading and texturing that sorta stuff. Thicker ones for outlines. Thanks for sharing your techniques.Β Β
