Description

Tried out a difference process for digital painting by painting over my traditional drawing in one layer and then effects in separate ones, quite liked how it resulted :3

-

I feel in some way Namine would be able to get Ven to remember his past, not sure how but since she has powers over memories figured she would. I feel that Ven may be a bit concerned of the unknown so he's hesitant, but he also feels it necessary in order to possibly bring Sora back?

So used the Book of Prophecies and silhouettes of his old friends to show that it is Ventus and NOT Roxas since I didn't wanna draw all of Ven's clothes. He wears too much stuff, haha.

-

Any feedback helps since this was a new technique for me and want to get better at showing emotion through color and composition.

Hi, I really like your use of colors. Seriously pretty. And the hair is soooooooo good. You put a lot of detail into the hair. They look so shiny too.
I personally like it. The way you use the highlights.  The blending is great those still needs a little more work.Especially on his pants. They look a bit rough. What type of brush do u use? I suggest u try to use soft brushes when blending with other color. To make it look even smoother. Body anatomy is the hardest . But you managed to deal with it. Though, his body kinda looks awkward. I can’t get enough with the details. The hands are spot on. Its super nice. The shading is good, the highlights are really neat. I like it that u added a shade of red on the knuckles and the fingers. Thats so hard to do. Even details of the knuckles are nice. You even used cool colors for the shading. Especially on the legs. I wish I could have seen the full body. The background is spot on. I like how u use the scatterd and burnt papers to represent Sora’s memories. Really smart. The background is neat and silhoutte looks amazing.

Overall everything is really good.I really like your style. Keep up the good work.

Thank you for your feedback. I struggled with the male’s anatomy a bit from the transition to traditional to digital. Things got lost and caused that part to weaken. Now looking at the traditional one, wish I just kept with the perspective I originally had cause it fit better. Idk what I was doing haha.

Hi! I found this piece through

The first thing I noticed looking at this was all of the light, especially on the hair, and how striking it all is, which is a good look in comparison to the mostly muted colors, and gives some warmth to what are actually pretty cool tones. All of those swirling colors worked in reminds me of the facets of a gem, almost, which really helps emphasize the complexity of the relationship they have.

I also notice the level of detail, and I like that I keep finding more and more details the closer in I look. I'm a huge fan of this sort of lineless without being lineless style. It can be hard to pull off, and it's clear to me that you know how the light should fall on your characters' bodies, clothes, and the harder, shinier things like the bracelet and hair. Especially that hair - it's easily the part I keep getting drawn to most, though I do have a couple suggestions for making it look even better. First is the uniformity of those highlights. I have this problem, too. It's a fine line you have to walk between making the highlight look fluid and making it so concentrated it looks like a band around the person's head. It's easier to do over clumps of shorter hair, but with longer, softer-looking hair, it's important to remember that hair isn't uniform, even when it's straight or nearly straight; it still wraps around the person's neck, shoulders, etc. and should follow the curve of where it falls on them. You definitely have a pretty good grasp on that form, but because the highlights are so high in contrast compared to the rest of the hair, the smooth, subtle look can be really hard to pull off. Still, it does look good. :3

As for the composition, I think you've done a great job of encapsulating the two of them, with all these memories keeping them close, intimate, and warm. The bright green in the top corner is a very sharp contrast to the rest of it, breaking that soft, dreamlike state, and I think that works perfectly. It shows that something is wrong, but the green is warm, which goes with the shadows of the friends he can't yet remember. Great job!

Thank you for your feedback I’ll look further into making sure I don’t go shine crazy on the hair and doing it in the light centric areas more ^^

You're welcome! :3

I recommend photo references, every time. Even if it's not a perfect match of what you're going for.

Ah, I tend to use action figures for posing. I’ll have to keep some refs for lighting

Wow, this is a lovely piece. I saw the thumbnail and had to come in to leave a comment.

I really like the softness of this, the atmosphere is dream-like and feels very intimate. Your color palette is very even and well thought out and the little hints of different colors in the shading really make the image look more alive. Kudos on making their hair look that soft too.

While the shading looks pretty and is mostly placed well – I feel like it could use some refinement. As is hard-edged drop shadows or cast shadows to better emphasize shape and light source. (e.g having their arms cast shadows to their bodies or having clearer shadows on their faces, since the light’s coming from up in this image). This could also be an effective tool to bring in more contrast in the emotions of the characters.

The top left area of the background had me a little confused as well. I love the floating papers and the meaning in them, but those figures and green fractures don’t really open to a viewer unfamiliar with the concept and they look disconnected to the rest of the image. I’d say – the figures could be bigger and way more transparent, as in more of light ghosts on the background. And should the green things stay, they should be more evenly spread on the canvas.

For a try for a new style you did very well. One layer painting is so much fun and I think the outcome in your case speaks for itself. I don’t even think it needs many effects :3

Thank you for the feedback I’ll look into being better about not making pieces too soft from now on ^^ I was thinking it felt a bit disjointed for the piece after looking at it for awhile, but also that in a way it is. The memories are ‘broken’ have you. But it comes off as more of bad composition
