Description

As Richard stepped into the small space which had been turned into a makeshift home, memories came flooding back to him. It was as if he had entered a time capsule which brought him back to Glasgow over five years ago.

Candles creating a false sense of warmth and homeliness, a pile of smelly blankets and a pillow pretending to be a proper replacement for a real bed. A small box of belongings, clothes, way overdue a wash, torn and scattered. Even a pile of books. Richard's books (and his teddy bear) had been his most valuable possession and the thing which kept him going through the nights on the street.

It all came back to him in a rush of conflicting emotions, only heightened by the figure of the boy he had been following here, huddled in the corner by the rusty radiator, staring at him with wide glowing eyes. Whatever shimmer kept humans from recognizing his true appearance, Richard could see right through it. After all, this had been the reason he had been following the boy from the shelter to his hideout. He wasn't just one of the homeless.

Glowing blue-purple eyes sitting in dark sockets, his lips slightly black and his ears similarly pointed as Richard's but also partly coloured black with a purple glow. The long spider-like fingers with the sharp nails were clenched around the boy's slim wrists. Richard couldn't tell what he was, but both his fae and his wolf senses picked up on the magic of the boy.

"Stay back!"

"Sorry, I didn't want to startle you." Richard held up his hands calmingly.

"You're the guy from the shelter."

"Yes." Richard smiled and inched a bit closer, ready to stop if the boy demanded it. "My name is Richard. And I think you know that we have something in common." Actually, it was more than just something. The boy was him five years ago. Lost and alone. And Richard decided that he wouldn't let that continue.

~~~
Richard volunteers at a homeless shelter in London - and I know the mesh shirt is a bit of a weird choice for that, but... oh well. Say hello to Kearon. I won't spoil who he is just yet because I intend to write a short story about how he and Richard meet and how he comes to Whitechurch Manor. He was supposed to be a throwaway character created by StarEyedOcelet but by now the concept behind him is too good not to make him a recurring character.
This is also the first time I have ever written the new version of Richard after his character got rebooted. StarEyedOcelet and I are slightly obsessed with our Fae-Wolf boy.
Anyway, this is basically acting on kiwihobbit 's prompt from my journal. It's just Richard, not Tariq, but it introduces a new character, yay.
You've created a whole crowd of interesting characters, but I think Richard is the most engaging - don't ask me why; he just keeps growing on me
Hah, that makes me happy since this new version of Richard hasn't really been around much. But I'm writing a short story based on this picture which introduces him more properly and I'm glad that he is so engaging already. He was the last of the main cast to undergo a "2.0" change but I'm really happy with how he turned out now and I have a better grip of his character too, much better than before
Thank you
I love our creation but I’m gonna side with my boy Sydney on this. I foresee trouble coming with this one.
It's a beautiful scene and a very deep backstory to it. Each detail I read I find myself comparing to the image. I love when new characters come into an existing scenario - it's like adding a new flavour to a recipe. Though sometimes it can affect that recipe dramatically, most of the time it complements what's already there, and I have a feeling this will be the case with Kearon. I'm glad you rescued him from being "thrown away". 😊
Sehr schönes Licht. Aber die Augen sind etwas übertrieben, oder?
Die sollen leuchten, steht ja auch in der Story Das ist eine emissive map aus dem Foster Character Set.
Hm, finde ich jetzt nicht so schlimm, aber perfekt auch nicht. Ist das erste Mal dass ich mit so was gearbeitet habe ^^ Vielleicht sieht es auch nur so extrem aus, weil alles andere so dunkel ist.
Ist auch nur in ganz groß etwas komisch. Vieleicht, weil es so was ja nicht gibt.
Das kann sein, man ist sowas ja nicht gewöhnt. Normalerweise bleibe ich deswegen auch von leuchtenden Augen weg oder auch von ganz schwarzen. Ich werde den Effekt wohl hier auch nur in dunklen Settings verwenden.
Ich versuche gerade herauszufinden, was Kearon sein könnte. Spitze Ohren, spinnenähnliche Finger. Leider kenne ich mich hauptsächlich mit der griechischen Mythologie aus, mit den anderen nicht so sehr. Irgendein Hinweis, in welcher Richtung ich suchen muß? - Er ist wirklich niedlich, und Richard ist der beste "große Bruder", den er sich wünschen kann.
Hehe, du kannst nicht wirklich drauf kommen, fürchte ich. Das Design ist mehr spontan und von mir, nicht unbedingt wirklich basierend auf dem eigentlichen Aussehen der Wesen zu denen er gehört. Und es ist noch ein zusätzlicher Twist bei der Sache dabei, der zur Story gehört
Oh, noch interessanter! ^^ Bin gespannt, wie's mit ihm weitergeht! Wieder etwas, dem ich entgegenfiebern kann, neben dem Geheimnis um Johnathan's Angst vor Feuer.
Nice work, and clever use of lighting to suggest the differences between the two. Did you use photoshop or emissives for the eyes?
The light really made me go crazy in this one. In the end, it rendered for 14 and the faces were still grainy because there were so many soft shadows. At least I found candles which don't set the entire set ablaze. Some of those candle props really are a bit much lol
The eyes are both, actually. They are from this set: www.daz3d.com/cc-foster-for-ge… I also used the texture, the brows and make-up options from this. The finger morphs are from the Nosferatu set though. And then I made the shine of the eyes pop a little more with PS.
I didn't even notice the fingers. They look great! I just used that hair the promo of cc foster and blond. I just had the same problem with the lighting. I thought I'd made the lights bright enough but I just doubled them luminance of them all and already it looks better. Just doing a test render of the head. I'm not going to rerender it though, but I might do another pose.
The hair from the... oh, you mean the messy updo? I have that hair too but never used it so far. It's one of those which seems to render for bloody ages lol I'm so into contrasts and shadows but the more you have, the longer the render takes. It's a catch-22, eh? XD
IndusGuys In reply to Ulysses3DArt [2019-03-13 17:24:32 +0000 UTC]
I think it is the hair, I changed it in the preview render it looked great so I went back not realising it would make a difference. I have it set to 500 iterations but it stops before that and still looks crap.
Danke Ich versuche in letzter Zeit die Umgebung mehr "lebendig" zu gestalten, weil leider viele Sets einfach nur nach Möbelhauskatalog aussehen. Viel zu perfekt und makellos.
Das Licht hat mich hier in den Wahnsinn getrieben, am Ende waren die Gesichter wegen der vielen weichen Schatten auch nach 14 Stunden noch körnig. Deswegen bin ich doppelt froh, dass es funktioniert
Beautiful image and gorgeous writing. Glad my prompt helped. Kearon is adorable and I'm glad we're going to see/read more about him in the future!
Ulysses3DArt In reply to AlleyKatArt [2019-03-13 16:28:02 +0000 UTC]
Yes, it really did. Kearon was a one-off character idea StarEyedOcelet had for a random short story he had started but he developed into much more. I'll send you a note later. It will be spoiler-y but I'd like your advice on him.
Wow, that's such a compliment And yeah, I like him too. I didn't have a real grip of the character lately, especially with all the change which has happened with the others. This new version really feels right.
