Why would someone name Hatake.Sr 'Sakumo'? Its a deviation of 'Sakumotsu' meaning 'crops'. In short, they both have stupid meaning names, but it follows a theme, so it sounds cool.

a possible reason for the naming is that in some old traditions the new mother would look outside her room and the first thing they see is what is made into the kids name. Mind you this was the traveling groups that did this. Others would use a sign or omen to name their kid so if for example Sakumo kept on seeing scarecrows or say got drunk and woke up in the arms of one that might explain it. I think its the 1st hokage but his name means pillar like a supporut pillar and the second I think means door or so not 100% on that. Sasuke for example is from the famous semi-fictional Koga ninja sarutobi sasuke from which both Uchiha sasuke and the 3rd hokage take their names from. It could also be Kakashi has another meaning like how Naruto means both Malestrom and fishcake.
