Description

A Virielyd spearman with a warrior's cloak - any traveler worth their salt wears a green or brown overcoat when traveling through the massive boughs of the Virie forest, too keep them camouflaged from the many predators that can be found there. When conflict with said predators is inevitable, however, soldiers and guards shed their overcoat to reveal a bright red warrior's cloak. This cloak acts as both a warning signal to the predators, who are accustomed to bright colors being a signal of poison or other dangers, and as a distraction as the still-camouflaged civilians make their escape.

This spearman is a Viderlyd, one of a group of humans native to the Virie forest. Their darker skin, atypical of a more northern origin, serves to help them blend in among the gargantuan trees of their homeland. He's spotted some sort of danger afoot, and is brandishing his weapons and his brightly colored cloak in an attempt to ward it off.

This art is part of an impromptu "Lorebruary" challenge I've set for myself, which is intended to give me an excuse to do more digital art and flesh out my homebrew D&D world a bit more. I meant for the illustrations to be less finished to save time, but I got caught up in the lighting and shading on this piece XD
