Kaguyahime (かぐや姫), from the Japanese traditional fairytale "Taketori Monogatari," the Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, returning to the moon.

Found inside a bamboo shoot, the incomprehensibly beautiful Kaguya was raised by a bamboo cutter and his wife. Upon reaching adulthood, she was courted by five princes, none of whom could pass her test of strength and honesty. The emperor himself offered her his hand in marriage, but she declined, telling him that she was not of his country, Japan.

One summer's evening, on the night of the full moon, Kaguya was met by celestial beings from the Moon's capital (月の都) and left Earth to return to her home.

Her life on Earth must have been melancholy, knowing inside that she didn't belong, but unsure of why... but, I can imagine, her trip back to the moon wasn't one of certainty, either.
