Bronze Quest 9 - Count Those Pokemon!

You've been tasked with going door to door in one of the nearby villages, figuring out how many Pokemon in total call it home! This will help the local government - or whatever counts as a "government" these days, at least - figure out how to best provide adequate water and food supplies, especially in cases of natural disaster, drought, or other situation where there might be a lack of resources nearby.

It may be a bit boring compared to the normal sorts of quests, but just think of all the cool Pokemon species you'll see!

Help keep track of how many Pokemon live in the nearby village!

"Séraphine! Séra, Séra!"

Looking up from her book, the pale woman stared at the energetic girl doing little jumps in front of her. She squinted her eyebrows, her way of saying "hi", and tilted her head slightly, letting her dear Mayra get a better look from her shoulder.

"What's wrong?" she asked plainly.

"I got a new task! And it sounds really cool!"

"Yes? That's great, dear" Séraphine nodded slowly. "You don't normally tell me about your adventures before starting them, though... did something else happen?"

"Actually, yes!" the dark-red haired girl enthusiastically brought up a notebook and a pen for Séraphine to see. The pale woman's expression instantly turned to visible worry with Aurore's next words. "I'm being asked to help with the census and count both villagers and pokemon, but I don't know how to read!"

She said it with such pride that Séraphine couldn't help but let her jaw drop when she was done.

"W-wait, you... I'm sorry, did you accept a task you're already aware you can't complete?"

Aurore simply nodded happily.

"I was hoping you would help me out with this one! You know how to write, and read, and math, so I figured this would be a great chance to ask you to teach me!"

"Aurore, sweetie-" Séraphine tried to gesture to make her point clear, but her hands couldn't stop shaking. "You can't learn to write and read in a matter of days, there's no way you'll be ready to do a census, of all things, quickly enough."

The red head brought a finger to her chin for a moment, thinking as hard as her little brain could without exploding, when a lit up lightbulb magically appeared above her, right as she triumphantly pierced the other girl with her eyes. Séraphine turned around for a brief second just to confirm Hafeez had been the one to do the lightbulb trick, giggling from behind a bookshelf. Freaky little prankster.

"Why don't you go out with me and write down the answers while I make the questions?"

"Oh. No. Not human interaction. Oh no. Oooh no."

"I'll do the interaction! You can stay behind me no biggie."

"Sunlight......."

"You said once you wanted to go out more and see the world for yourself! This is the perfect excuse! Let's go get your cape, Séra!"

"NooOOoo..."

With a swift leap, Aurore crossed the room and snatched her friend's dark cape, quickly bringing it over and putting it on her shoulders, all while she made distressed noises and tried to go back to her comfy chair. So much for finishing her reading session.

"Promise you'll buy me a sweet after this is done..." she muttered, right as they stood in front of the mannor's massive doors and Aurore was scrambling to find the right key. She turned around, seemingly with a surprised expression.

"Hm? Oh, that's a given! I'll buy you three sweets for this one."

Séraphine's suffering suddenly vanished. With as much seriousness as she could muster amidst her natural shyness, she gripped the notebook and pen firmly and brought them up to writing position on her arms.

"O-okay, deal. I'll help you out."

"The things you do for sweets, huh-"
