It's been TOO long since I've shown dragon types in Dominion! So today, I bring you the main Carbuncle, Gulbrand!

Carbuncles are sometimes called the "mineral dragons", as they specialize in manipulating metal and crystal matter, as opposed to the base rock manipulation of Terasaurs. They also possess psychokinetic and telepathic powers. Something that might catch one's attention is that Carbuncles don't have eyes. Instead, they have sensory gems protruding from their skulls, which use that psychic power to take in the surroundings and create the images in their brains. Since this also lets a Carbuncle look behind and all around the vicinity without turning their head, some would say the sensory gems see much better than eyes can. Of course, their bodies are also plated with a metallic hide, and their very bones are tougher than steel.

However, young Carbuncles' sensory gems are much too sensitive to light, so until they come of age and overcome this issue, they are raised and trained in the underground citadel of Dimäntel. Only when they can filter light properly in their sensory gems can Carbuncle youth be deemed ready to venture to the Ryugan surface and travel the lands. Even with dragon factions tensing up against each other, it's not uncommon to see a few Carbuncle mercenaries among the various groups.

Gulbrand here is the son of one such mercenary - a mighty one, drawing much awe even from his enemies. He has always wanted to go to the surface and fight for virtue and honor as his father does. It just so happened that Damian and his allies happened to visit during his coming-of-age rite - Gulbrand has now chosen his comrades-in-arms.

He may be a child, but Gulbrand is wise and mature for his tender age. He expresses mild discontent to the annoying, the childish, and the brash (e.g., Chayton). He also wishes to not be treated like a baby just because he's the runt of the group. While he's typically soft-spoken, he often exhibits the combative ferocity that Carbuncles are known for in battle - his shift from calm to wild can be jarring for some.

Oh yes, his kind's music genre theme is Viking metal, with traces of other metal variations weaved into the mix (like power, black, and thrash). The more I think on this, the more Carbuncles seem to be the dwarves of Ryuga.
