Springskipper are actually part of the phylum Pseudoplantae, which, although often filling the role of plants on Habet Vitam, are more closely related to common animal-equivalents, and photosynthesizes thanks to a symbiotic algae that lives in their skin. Before they even started walking, the ancestors of the Springskippers would explode by electrifying hydrogen if they were eaten, scattering seeds everywhere.
This eventually became a reproduction strategy that the Springskippers retain. Instead of mating, to share genetic information, they have battles whenever they encounter one another, the loser of which is forced to be stabbed by the winner’s proboscis to inject viruses that will genetically alter the dormant seeds living in its “mate”.
