Here is the finished product, like I promised! (Got it back from my teacher, yay!)

This project was an art response for my Women's Studies class. We were supposed to respond to a couple of different readings we did. The first was about Marie Curie, and the other was about a woman who wanted to be an astrophysicist, but put that dream aside to care for her family instead. So to respond to both, I did the portrait of Curie, and the background with the galaxy was supposed to be a response to the latter reading. Woohoo, school!

We've been talking a lot in my class about how science benefits from interdisciplinary input, I wanted to combine themes of science, nature and art. Hence my lame title.

The portrait was done in egg tempera, the background is watercolor. I attached the portrait to the background using mod podge (lmao). I'm not totally happy with the blank space in the painting, but due to time constraints with having to turn the assignment in, I didn't have a chance to think something up to fill the space. If I had to do it again, I would add something else.
