Magic!! I didn't make a pattern or anything and my bag making is always different. But since you asked so nicely, I found a tutorial that's pretty much how I did it!!
[link] It's all the same, except I don't use cardboard and my dimensions were different. Instructables is a great site for all your how-to needs. lol I hope this helps a bit. When I make another one of these bags, I plan on taking note and making a tutorial to share with the dA community.

No worries!! I love to help whenever I can. If you have any questions or concerns, I can probably help you. Duct tape is kinda my specialty. WalMart and Michael's Craft Stores are my preferred places for colored tapes. Target sometimes has a pretty good selection of tape. Happy hunting!

They CAN be very sturdy, but I try to treat my bags very delicately. If you use the same strip as the bottom and strap, I think it would stay together pretty well. I would definitely suggest carrying some books in your arms if you have a thousand heavy books and putting a few in a bag.

Now I feel like I should run some tests...

lol please let me know how well it holds up? i think for my workload ill use a layer of cardboard as well as plenty of tape

Maybe try a woven bag? My little purse can hold 15 lbs or some such because its sturdily woven with love and tape. I know a kid who used cardboard and tape to make a backpack and it didn't hold together very well. But it could have just been something he did wrong. I'm sure its possible to succeed with cardboard!

I believe the biggest problem with carrying alot of weight is that the strap may need to be repaired or replaced. The bag itself is sturdy, but the weight affects the strap the most.

Gotta keep experimenting!!!
