I actually read that they DO have a second wing on the other side, you just don't see it because it's insubstantual, in another faze of an dimension. I don't know if that's real, but it would make sense. You don't see it and he couldn't like hit you with it because it doesn't exist in our realm, but because of their being...DIFFERENT, it exicts enough to allow proper flight. It would be the sort of thing FFVII would have.

If you're just flat on your belly. If you lean in the opposite direction, you should be able to fly forward.
