Perhaps Pinkamena is just low on Friendship power so she becomes moody and unstable, while a well fueled Pinky bot is happy and friendly as per usual, although not necessarily stable.

Makes sense. That would explain a Party of One scenario where she goes pinkamena. None of her friends come to the party so she enters low power mode. Its like a solar powered robot being indoors too long.
