Description More info revealed about this character: [link]

1. She (it) speaks in Technobabble.
2. She looks like a faceless horror from some kid's nightmare.
3. If you're a science freak like me, you would have caught instantly that her name, Phi, is a letter of the Greek alphabet (it looks like this: Φ for those that don't know). Additionally, the Greek letter Phi is used in mathematical equations to predict vector rolls when entering the atmosphere from a zero gravity environment (among other atmospheric flight related mathematical equations). Once again awesome symbolic names are changed at the last minute. Oh well, there's still a Fi in Sci-"Fi".

I'm willing to throw down cold hard cash that Fi is from space.

EDIT: Well she ended up being a monotone break dancing robot. Huh...

But yes, model by me. Made and rendered in Maya 2010.

is that good or bad to you

Good because it means I'll win a bet against many people. Bad because they'll probably look too funny to take as a serious threat, but that's just my inner pessimist.

got new info about phi for you

for one things its name is actually FI (more music based)
and despites the game's title fi's sword form is called the goddess sword

however
in the demo i played after i beat the stalfos and got the beetle upgrade fi language in describing it was
"anaylsis suggests that etc" do it definatly has a scifi element
and i know that there will be a scifi element in the game

Yeah that changed the name from Phi to Fi recently, probably to make it a pun on Sci-"Fi".

actually from what i've read it was always fi it was just mistranslated
and the fi part was to give it a connection to music (fi dances to the harp once or twice)

Uh i wouldnt get you hopes up about the space thing (i know you said that before) more likely its a servent of the gods
she looks like the fairy queen from wind waker

I guess Phi just happens to speak advanced mathematical terms and techno-babble to Link because she just so happened to get a degree in astrophysics at the medieval academy of Hyrule then.

assddrago In reply to UndyingNephalim [2011-09-23 18:15:07 +0000 UTC]

actually hyrule doesnt even exist yet

anyway Phi is more likely a creation of the gods. (I believe there is a new goddess in this game who phi and zelda are most likely related to)

Many zelda games have the magic artifacts and areas take science motifs
(and how much real difference is there between magic and science fiction anway)

Case in point: Wind Waker's Tower of the Gods and its boss Gohdan, the semi tech feel of Zant's Palace, the machinary you find in most water temples to change the water level, and various other examples

anyway with the latest information i am getting really excited for Skyward Sword

You more or less prove my point that "magic" in Zelda is perhaps misunderstood technology and that perhaps the Goddesses and other celestial beings from the series are extraterrestrial beings influencing life on Hyrule. Thus I stand by my theory that Phi is otherworldly in origin.

You might be thinking of Phi in the Golden Ratio Equation, which is approximately 1.6180339887498948482

i don't know that number, but i guess, ja, but then again, i was confused by 3,14159265 wich is the normal Pi..

Well the impressions they've shown of her so far have me liking the character. I've not seen too much of her yet sadly to make a final judgement.

I figure Phantom Hourglass was even more of a blemish. Unless you're not counting it.

UndyingNephalim In reply to Naside [2011-06-16 00:34:52 +0000 UTC]

Phantom Hourglass was ok to me, if anything it was just boring. The thing about Spirit Tracks that irks me most is that it insults my intelligence. That is it treats me, the player, like I'm an idiot and don't know any better. The term "Master of Icy Fire" being an example, and a switch in the second dungeon that literally opens up a door right next to it being another. People could argue that's because it was "made for kids" (which is true, the director wanted to make the game for his eight year old son who loved trains), but I like to think kids are smarter then that. Phantom Hourglass never really seemed to have any moments where it was treating me like a little baby so I never really felt offended by it.

Phi, also used to denote phase changes, the angle with the z axis when using spherical coordinates, and it also denotes electric and magnetic flux :3

And interesting A loot seeking ability. What I wouldn't give for this in other games >.>

Indeed. Coincidence that her name implies advanced science and mathematical implications? Or was it intended (as was the case when I named my game Sigma)?

makes me wonder if the "magical" items in this game are actually magical or just technology advanced enough to be mistaken for such

UndyingNephalim In reply to Genocide739 [2011-06-14 03:30:55 +0000 UTC]

I've had that belief long before Skyward Sword ever came along, ever since I read the creation story of Hyrule in A Link to the Past. They use some pretty scientific terms in that description...

Now that I think about it, alot of things scream technology, I love seeing technology and magic going together in games

interesting. She/it is supposed to turn into the skyward sword and then the master sword so that would be strange.

It would be awesome if she ended up being a member of some advanced alien race. It would give some more grounds for my theories that Hyrule was being manipulated by such beings throughout it's history. I'm pointing a finger at the Oocca in particular...
