the third, fourth, and fifth Kig-Yar shown here are of the same subspecies (Ruutian). The only reason they look different is due to stylistic differences. The fifth one in particular is just a helmeted variant of the fourth. Kigs one and two are definitely separate subspecies though.

I think it was mostly to give them a new look to go along with the switch between Bungie and 343, but in the Canon the explanation is that there are three subspecies of Kig-yar, Ruuhtian(common ones from Halo CE up to Reach), T'vaoan(Skirmishers), and Ibie'Shan(Halo 4, used mostly by Jul 'Mdama).
