reminds me a little too much of that one character from lilo and stitch.

Take out the yellow, orange, and red rainbow/wave things, and you have a winner. Not trying to insult your artistic prowess, but it looks really tacky.
The creature alone will get you far.

My only concern is the amount of detail on this. It's really nice, but to put it onto a T-Shirt would sort of ruin it, no?

Not saying the detail on this isn't bad, if that's what you're thinking.
Just saying that when/if dA were to put this on the shirt, they wouldn't be able to print this much detail on it unless they had major professional printers made by the heavens of amazing digital work.
Or something like that.
If they tried, it might not look as great as this picture~
