Amazing work on Unicron. For me, he's one of the most memorable villains in the series.

Galactus has got nothing on Unicron!

His transformation in the 80's film to me is both scary AND awesome IMHO

The film is awesome IMHO, y'know, for a Star Wars rip-off

"One shall stand, one shall fall!"

"Why throw away your life so recklessly?"

That's a question you should ask yourself, Megatron!"

"No! I'll crush you with my bare hands!"

*cue the Touch playin in the background*

Yeah, critics bashed it for being a Star Wars rip off. But for me, the film was pretty original. I mean yes, the influences from Star Wars is undeniable. But that doesn't make the movie a Star Wars rip off. And besides, who could forget the music? The music is awesome. Sure, some people may say that it's cheesy, but for me, the soundtrack is quite soothing and refreshing. At least it sounds original, it doesn't sound like the generic orchestra or techno stuff that we normally use today. Because if you think about it, we always use orchestra. Especially for background tunes. There's nothing wrong with that style, but it's all we use. Rock and Roll music is a rarity today.

I know not all of it was ripped off of star wars, there are similarites, but in the 4 minute long promo trailer, Victor Caroli even mentioned and quote "conceived in the epic tradition of Star Wars" so I guess I can forgive them (Hasbro).

Also, Vince DiCola's (I think that's how you spell his name) soundtrack was beautiful in all of its glory. For me, the Unicron theme was the best in the film and when Prime died, the music fit the mood of the scene. I wish Michael Bay included Stan Bush's music in his TF films, I would have loved it!

Well what can I say? Star Wars was a huge influence on a lot of other franchises during the 1970s and the 1980s. It was all the rage, and it still is today. As for the soundtrack, I loved pretty much all the songs that were used. They all had that adrenaline flowing sound and beat to them that really got the blood pumping. And it had me coming back for more. Unicron's theme was pretty awesome. The Death of Optimus Prime made me cry. And the songs Dare, The Touch, Nothing's Gonna Stand in our Way, and Hunger really filled me with energy. One thing that caught me off guard was when they used Weird Al's Dare to be Stupid. And that song is everywhere. Heck, it even has its own music video. Now, I've seen the music video for Hunger some time ago. Believe it or not.

There was a music video for Hunger? I have to check that out

Yeah, Optimus' death made me bawl, same with Dinobot's death.
They were both touching IMO

Indeed. Those were very saddening moments in TF history.

And yes, there was a music video for Hunger. But it's VERY hard to find. Specter General, the artist behind Nothing's Gonna Stand in Our Way and Hunger, is also known as Kick Axe. Or at least, that's the name of the band he used to participate in.

I knew his group was also called Kick Axe, but I guess how rare the music video is why I never heard of it before. Hmm?

Oh yeah, I'm sure it may have been easier to find back in the 80s. But today, it's near impossible to find. But truth be told, I did see the music video a couple of years ago on MTV. Back when they used to broadcast rock music and cartoons like Aeon Flux and Beavis and Butthead.

Yeah, that was back in the 90s when television was worth getting into. It's a different time now. Sad to say...

Mrtrainfreak12 In reply to MDTartist83 [2013-06-20 16:48:36 +0000 UTC]

I feel the same thing about MTV and CN. They're not the same anymore, with reality shows and in Cartoon Network's case, shows that are heavily advertised, and like the shows that are that are new they'd go for a few episode's, maybe even a season then they'd vanish. Same goes for Disney and Nick, though the 90's are all that is cool, even though it's in the dead middle of the night.

MDTartist83 In reply to Mrtrainfreak12 [2013-06-20 21:22:01 +0000 UTC]

I know, right? I mean why is it always the good shows that are cut short? And also, I know you may hear this a lot. But a lot of today's TV shows are so boring. In fact, there's hardly anything out there today that's worth getting into. But that's not to say that there doesn't exist good movies and TV shows today. There are some. But when it comes to cartoons, we only stick with one style. And only CGI is allowed to be shown in theaters. Any movies that are traditionally animated will only see a direct to video release. Which is typical. I mean there's nothing wrong with CGI. But come on! That can't be the only style we use! True, for those of us who were born in or grew up in the 80s or 90s, those times will always have a special place in our hearts. Even though we're long past that now. But still, I think you know what I mean.

I actually was born in the late 90's and I got into all the old cartoons and anime from my local video store. Those were the times...

2-D animation deserves better than this, I mean, Pixar is cool and all but Dreamworks stuff is just crappy!

I'll also never forgove what they did to the Smurfs

I know how you feel, I rant about that A LOT, and sometimes being in theaters makes me wisecrack under my breath like MST3k almost (I love that show)

MDTartist83 In reply to Mrtrainfreak12 [2013-06-20 21:44:35 +0000 UTC]

I was born in 1983, the same year when Scarface came out. And let me tell you, I've seen plenty of things during those times. Anime has been one of my major influences in art and story telling. And some of my favorite anime shows from then were stuff like Voltron, Robotech, Saber Rider, ect. I've even seen a lot of the more obscure anime TV shows which not many people seem to know of. But it wasn't until like 1996 or so when I got back into anime, and learned about the OVAs and the big hits like Akira, Ninja Scroll, and Ghost in the Shell. And those titles changed the way I saw anime forever. I agree; 2D animation can still be used today, and it deserves better treatment than its getting today. Even though some people think quite the opposite. It seems to me that the American industry has become so biased and closed minded when it comes to animation. Because usually, it's only one style. And again, there's nothing wrong with CGI. But for God's sake, can't they make an effort to try something different every now and then?

Oh, don't get me started on the Smurfs... I remember MST3K. I miss that show.
