Equestria and it's allies are the good guys. Like the Alliance in WWII. Kinda low tech, but always researching for new discoveries.
The main enemy is the Auffensplitz (I may have misspelled the country name.) It mainly consists of dogs. But it also has allies- wolves, ponies and griffins. They act like Axis in WWII. They are quite advanced in technology, but lack in strategy.
