Description Our family was far beyond what people consider to be normal. Despite it being in the twenty-first century, my parents, my sister and I live in an old mansion in the countryside of America. Due to my parents work, I can't give specifics, I'm not even sure if the mansion is there anymore. So much has happened since my sister, Natalie, and I read that book, it's hard to believe just how much we've been through. Yet, it still feels like an incredible journey. Most people would look back and think: 'I wish we had never done that.' 'I wish this had never happened.' But I think just the opposite, if we had never read the book, never drawn those runes on that scrap of paper and brought her here... I shudder at the thought of what would have happened then.

People like to say that she's a menace, just a destructive girl with a lust for blood and chaos... But that's a lie. She's the only one who stands between the destruction of our world, or its salvation, the only problem is convincing her which way to step.

My name is Edgar Lapaige, and, with my sister Natalie, I set in motion a chain of events that eternally rewrite the script of, not only our world, but every realm and universe in existence. All thanks to Chaos.

Edgar walked to the front door of his large home, up two flights of grand stairs to the very last door on left side of the leftmost hallway, just before the door to the greenhouse that contained herbs, flowers and various other plants that his mother used for her concoctions.

He faced the dark blue door with the smiling face of a black cat painted on it. He knocked twice, paused and knocked three more times.

"Enter." A soft voice answered him. He opened the door and stepped into a warm room that was lit by candles, despite the four electric ceiling fans that hung down from the ceiling, and smelled like lavender incense.

"Hey Nati." Edgar smiled warmly at his little sister. Her long black hair was done in twin braids that fell to the floor as she sat in front of a candle whose flame was dancing under her palm. "Isn't the floor a bit uncomfortable?"

"A little, but I feel like it helps me concentrate." Edgar just shrugged and sat to her left as the flame rose and started to circle Natalie's hand.

"You're getting better and better at handling fire, Nati." Edgar said as his eyes adjusted to the dim lighting.

"It's a lot less touchy than earth is. Earth falls apart so easily and water likes to glide around too much." Natalie's green blue eyes glittered as she watched the flame dance.

"Just don't burn yourself. Anyway, once you're done, I have something to show you."

Natalie dropped the flame back to the candle as she looked at her brother. "You've been in the top of the library again."

"Yes."

"If dad finds out you've been up there, you're going to be grounded for a month! Again!"

"But this book! It's the one that grandpa gave me when I was little! Remember?" Edgar reached into his shirt and took out a small, silver key on a silver chain. Its intricate design and slender design made gave it the appearance of a delicate, silver rose. "Grandpa gave me this on my tenth birthday along with the book and said to keep them safe."

"Yes, then dad took the book away, started arguing with grandpa and locked the book away in the library and told us both 'Under NO circumstances are you to ever touch this book! Nothing good will ever come from that thing!'" Natalie said in a mock version of her fathers stern voice.

"I think you're forgetting what grandpa told us before dad went on a rampage, you were only eight after all. He told us: 'This book has been passed down in our family before time was recorded. This book once belonged to the Archive and was given to the very first Keeper. It has then been given to every Keeper in our family to keep the seals safe. I know this sounds confusing now, but when you're old enough to understand and read this book, I know you'll become a fine Keeper.'"

"It's too bad he doesn't visit us anymore. Now that we have the book, we could ask him." She sighed.

"OR," Edgar rolled his eyes. "we could read the book like he said!"

"I don't know about this Edgar... That book has a weird energy signature... And those runes on the cover don't look friendly."

"Ok then. We'll read it later. But inside, I found this scrap of paper with a bunch on runes on it. What do you make of that?" Edgar handed her the paper.

Natalie studied the image for a moment, then her eyes widened. "This is a summoning circle!"

Edgar leaned over to look at the paper from over her shoulder. "How can you tell?"

"You see this circle with a smaller one inside? And the writing in between them?"

"Yeah."

"Those are containment circles. The first circle, the small one, allows whatever you summon, to come to our world. The second, the larger one, is a containment to keep whatever is summoned in a stable form so that its presence doesn't unbalance the natural energies."

"Wow... that's pretty complex summoning magic."

"Very. It's really advanced stuff. Even mom can't do this kind yet."

"What's that stuff in the middle?"

"That's a dual pentagram. It's also called a 'dual star' or 'demon star'. Basically it's two, five pointed stars, one that faces up, and one that faces down. It signifies how much energy is needed and what types. Since this uses two stars, there are a lot of different elements that need to be present when you summon whatever this is."

"Can you tell what someone was trying to summon with this thing?"

"Not really. These aren't runes that mom has showed us. There are a few here that are common knowledge, like here is the one for 'moon', and opposite it is the one for 'sun'. Then there's the sign for 'fire' which is opposite the one for 'water', and 'earth' to the opposite of 'air'. It looks like for every symbol, opposite it is it's.. well, opposite! So whoever was trying to summon this wasn't looking for just some creature or item. Someone wanted something VERY specific, and VERY powerful." She sighed. "I doubt they succeeded. The amount of energy and knowledge it would take to even THINK of summoning this thing would either kill you or turn you into a vegetable."

"So why do you suppose this thing was jammed into this old book?"

"My best guess would be that, whatever this book is about, is what this person was trying to summon." Natalie eyed the book in Edgar's lap with an excited hunger.

Edgar smirked. "I thought you didn't want to read it."

"Well now I'm too curious! Besides, it's not like we're going to summon this thing! Plus, if grandpa was that serious about it, it's worth looking into!" She smiled.

So Edgar placed the book on the floor in front of them, and they began to devour each page with hungry curiosity. The deeper they got into the book, the more they began to understand the mysterious runes, and their grandfathers words.
