Bolivar Trask, an anti-mutant activist has built a giant robot to hunt down and eliminate mutants, he calls it Sentinel. Trask has also learned that Sonic and his friends reside at the X-Mansion with the X-Men and has programmed the Sentinel to hunt down and eliminate them as well. Trask thinks that Sonic and his friends are a menace and a threat to innoncent people just like mutants, not all mutants are bad guys, but Trask doesn't care about that.

Doctor Eggman's robots are way too easy to defeat, just simply smash them with the boost attack, homing attack, hammer and Knuckles fist and they are scrap metal. The Sentinels are a challenge. In the X-Men Evolution season 2 epsiode 17 Day of Reckoning - Part Two, we see the X-Men fight the Sentinel with everything they've got but that does not simply turn the Sentinel into scrap metal. They had to do much more than that to stop it. The Sentinel has also more weapons than Eggman's robots, it has lasers, laser canon, missiles and more.

Here we see Team Sonic facing a Sentinel and stopping it, is going to be a challenge for them.

I know that is a Sonic Boom and not a Sonic X picture, but it was the only one I could find where Sonic and his friends look like they are facing something big.
