Description

Petri

Real Name: Kirsten Bloom

Occupation: Graduate student, adventurer

Identity: Secret

Base of Operations: New York City

First Appearance: Opensource #44

Team Affiliations: Street Team

History: Growing up, Kirsten Bloom was often sick, her wellness seemingly fluctuating with her moods. Doctors were continually baffled, and could never figure out a cause or a permanent cure for any of her illnesses. In high school, in anger at being teased by a group of other teenage girls, Kirsten shouted “I wish you knew how I felt.” Every girl immediately fell sick with a sudden and violent stomach bug.

This was a eureka moment for Kirsten. Consulting a specialist in mutation research, Kirsten learned that she was a mutant. She left a sample of her blood with the specialist, which along with numerous other blood samples was subsequently stolen by agents from Shyft Metagenics.

Kirsten assisted Opensource in a missing persons case, using her powers to investigate the crime scene and track the person’s whereabouts. During that case, Opensource nicknamed her Petri. Later, based on her profile from that adventure, she was approached by local hero Battery to form a new team of super heroes.

Known superhuman powers: Petri is able to use chemical signals to communicate with bacteria, viruses, and microbial life. Through this, she can increase their activity, causing people to become sick or other effects specific to that particular species (for example, encourage crude-oil eating bacteria to more quickly clean up a spill). She can also sense traces left by microbial life, allowing her to discover forensic information. Bloom can also completely inhibit their growth, allowing a person to become well or to sterilize wounds

Petri has the strength of a human their height and build who engages in moderate regular exercise.
