I wished I'd liked this design, but it always reminded me of the wooden spoons that you got with the single serve ice creams that you got at school, that and never understood the nacelle raising and lowering for warp, a good hit at the hinge, and no warp drive for you.

The variable position warp nacelles allowed for more precise control over the warp bubble, which allowed for higher stability at higher speeds allowing the Intrepid to be one of the fastest ships of it's day.
