Description This is the first of three half-jackets I've made. It means that the patter was still a little bit iffy, so it's not my best, but I really like it. These photos don't quite do it justice since it's made of a billion different kinds of fabrics and they sort of photograph differently, plus the lighting wasn't very good. I just wanted to get pictures up. This is made from scrap of a million different projects; a kimono, a chinese shirt, some Jayne pouch stuff, a chair, a dress, a waistcoat, a skirt, etc. I quilted it all together (there's a lot of silk in there, so it was kind of hard) and then cut the peices out. I made the pattern myself, the lined it with black silk and threw on a bunch of buttons and there you go. One awesome jacket. It's really comfy too.

This is one of the things that I'm considering selling, or at least making more to sell. The pattern is now fixed up (I added darts in the back and slimmed it down in the front a little.

Would you buy this?

I love the coat and would buy it but to be honest I would rather have the pattern!

I do love this one however and how the different colors of the patchwork both compliments and contrasts at the same time, its great.

That is great. Love the part that crosses the breast and buttons. This inspires me.

Yeah. Im making a similar thing (but quite long) since Im unemployed and therefore cant buy new clothes. Patchwork outside with a liner might do the trick. Thanks for showing me more ways to do some awesome work.

I like. It's very cute. I'd ware stuff like that if I looked good in half stuff but I really don't. I especially like the fact that you made out of different fabric.

I only recently found out that I DID look good in them. I really like batchwork.

Yeah, When I do ware them, they make me look pregnant.

That is always a problem. And the reason I wear nothing with an empire waist.

Looks awesome. Personally I find working on patchwork annoying and tedious so I never do it but then I see stuff like this and I regret not having more willpower. XD But yeah, it looks very finished, very professionally done.

God, that Patchwork took me SO LONG. There's a reason I don't quilt. Oh well, it all worked out in the end, once I got the method down. It's pretty awesome, I have to say.

It IS awesome. Like I said, I wish I had the patience for something like that.

Wow. It's like two projects I've been procrastinating on combined into one! (Patchwork waistcoat and a short military style jacket)
Pattern may not be final, but it looks fantastic!
How does it look unbuttoned? If I were to buy it that would be an important thing to know. I have a double breasted jacket that looks terrible unbuttoned so I only wear it when I'm freezing.
Also, where might you be selling these?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

urasei In reply to No-43 [2010-08-14 15:48:13 +0000 UTC]

Unbuttoned, it needs a little bit of work, the second one I made looks better simply because it's heavier. The problem with this one is that one side has buttons and the other doesn't. When I switch the inside clasp to a snap, it may work better. I've found that unbuttoned it looks a little bit like some sort of 1920's bomber jacket.

When I sell these, they'll be done by commission on Etsy. If you're interested, I can put your name down now and try to send you something when I get it up and running.

Okay, thank you for telling me. Have you tried a single button at the corner of the flap? Not sure how that would make too much of a difference, but it's an idea.
And yes, put me on the list!
I probably won't have the money anytime soon, but I absolutely want to buy one.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

urasei In reply to No-43 [2010-08-16 00:30:12 +0000 UTC]

Well, there's just more fabric on the front flap; more added, that is. Ones without that side clasp look great open, but this one can be iffy.

I'll let you know.

I...yes, I would probably buy one at some point. It's a very unique design and I like that.

EPIC. That's really cool. And of course they'd all be a little bit different.

Aloria In reply to urasei [2010-08-14 03:12:33 +0000 UTC]

Of course. I could probably even supply you with some scrap fabric as well; I've got enough of it laying around. How much would one cost?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

urasei In reply to Aloria [2010-08-16 00:28:31 +0000 UTC]

That would be awesome. Uh...price wise, no idea yet, but less if you give me some fabric. I don't know, really.

Aloria In reply to urasei [2010-08-16 02:26:58 +0000 UTC]

Lol, you sound like me there. I never know what to price stuff at...

My fabric's kicking around here somewhere. I think I put it in a box, then put that box in another box...

urasei In reply to Aloria [2010-08-17 03:35:59 +0000 UTC]

I seriously have no idea. Hey, if you get that fabric someday and I get a price and we work things out, I'll give you my address and you can send it to me, yeah?

That is damn spiffy, though that particular pattern of patches would probably not work on me.

urasei In reply to AlessaSmile [2010-08-14 00:47:24 +0000 UTC]

There wasn't really a pattern to it, it just was. Why not?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AlessaSmile In reply to urasei [2010-08-14 00:52:38 +0000 UTC]

Well, that combination, then?

And I can't really explain it, but it's just a bit too rainbow-y to look right on me, I suppose. Still awesome though.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

urasei In reply to AlessaSmile [2010-08-14 01:18:00 +0000 UTC]

I can get that. It's VERY bright, that's for sure. Which I think is why I kept it so small; you can't have a patchwork piece of clothing that's very big. Then you look like Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
