Description This was a fun painting. Fantasy portrait, of the sort I haven't done in a thousand years, and all the little methods with watercolor and colored pencil and pen I've been fooling around with, lo these many moons, all came together. Plus, I mean, blue chickens. C'mon!

Looking at it, though, I realize it needs a fantasy novel to go with it. An epic saga! With a name like Egg of Fate or Servants of the Henmother or something!

Henrietta Featherkin was misunderstood by her family and despised by the villagers for her ability to communicate telepathically with chickens. But she was content enough as an assistant egg-keeper, among her beloved fowl, until forced to flee an arranged marriage and/or witch burning. Accompanied by two wise-cracking psychic roosters named Widget and Snodgrass,* Henrietta must travel the length of a land torn by war and suspiciously poultry-like monsters, to unravel the mystery of her psychic gift and deliver the sacred Egg of Fate to the Temple of the Henmother. Can she engage in rampant personal discovery, find love, make everybody in her old village feel very badly about mistreating her, invent a new kind of omelet, and tame the mighty Dire Chicken of legend before time runs out?

Hey, I'd read it.

Totally needs a novel! I would read it. Or write it, if I had the ability to write anything long and detailed and awesome enough to go with this drawing.

"Cerulean godchickens" is now my favorite phrase ever. And the name Henrietta Featherkin is epic. *nods*

This picture, at first glance, is regal and exquisite. Then you look at it closer and see chickens, which make this piece of art seem so comical and mystical at the same time. Also, the little back story is great. I'd read it too.

I think you'd do pretty good with a book like that. Can anyone say "cult classic"?

Is it bad that I now have this rather strong and sudden urge to write this story? Is it bad that I may have possibly jotted down a few notes... combined a few to make paragraphs..? That sort of thing..?
...
Please, can I write it? It's just begging to be told!

Like the picture too btw!

Lol, your novel synopsis has me sold; I'd buy it. Great image, as well. I like the repeating motifs, though the woman's... thing behind her head... reminds me of a turkey more than a chicken. In any case, I like it!

Anyways, I wouldn't mess with her. She looks like the kind of domestic witch that can hold her own. Anyways, if you piss her off she'll come egg your house at night or something.

Because I do...
I really really do...
<3

And hey, if you`d really consider reading it, I`ll totally write it >.<
Because I have no access to a scanner for another month, nor any art programs, which means sketching and writing, because I`m silly and haven`t ever submitted a story ( I think ) to dA

If a book had the title of "Egg of Fate", had that painting on the cover, and that description.....I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Honest to pancakes. Somebody should write a book like that, and make it kinda like "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" by Douglas Addams, only with chickens instead of aliens, ya kno. Brilliant XP

I really like this. Your choice of colours is very bold, but you've managed to make a very detailed, blue picture. I like the hen and rooster's expression, they're priceless

Her outfit is really cool and I llike the folds in the cloth very much. Her expression and the staff makes her look like a very serene, but powerful, lady

Fox-the-Kitsune [2006-07-19 08:01:55 +0000 UTC]

Sounds like a #1 bestseller to me. Looking the previous sketch, and knowing you would eventually paint it, I was halfway expecting the color to be at the other end of the spectrum (shades of red). But the blue chickens are too much. I'm curious as to what the Dire Chicken would look like.
