Description I really have bikes on the brain Its funny too, because when I can't actually ride my bike I find myself doing one of two things, shopping for bike components and bike gear, or drawing bikes I recently had my wisdom teeth pulled so I've been on the mend on pain killers and such, so I've been unable to ride. So this image is what resulted from that down time. Also my GF has been busy too so that has also given me extra time to pour into such images.

So the bike shown is supposed to be based off a classic lugged Masi Gran Criterium. I actually have a Masi Gran Crit myself that is my weekend bike (The Nishiki in my other recent bike image is my weekday commuter). Mine is modern one though (and its black and yellow not red), the one in the image is an old one with down tube style shifters and classic logos. I did however draw it with some modern wheels (like the ones I really really want for my Masi haha).

The background is also vaguely based off the Belvedere island loop road I enjoy riding along. Its actually on this road where I had my nasty crash that left my face good'n scared Its a lovely ride though, and despite my crash I still ride there because of the beautiful bay views one gets.

Well, hope you all enjoy the image

This... really isn't aiding my trying to convice myself not to buy another bicycle you realise...

Great image mate... you still draw some of the cutest girls going. Love it.

Also, down-tube shifters are where it's at.

Thank you! Now, as I recall your bike is a spiffy single speed right? So maybe its time for a second bike with gears eh? Perhaps a kick-ass classic road bike with down-tube shifters is in order? Just-saying (I am a pushy bike advocate these days hahaha)

Yeah, I've got a fixie at the moment... which is a heap of fun but kinda useless for commuting.

Classic road bike with down-tube shifters? Why, whenever did you learn to read my mind from such a distance

Thank you!! Its a really beautiful place to ride, my drawing doesn't even begin to do it justice. Case and point: usually the water is dotted with sail boats and on the other side of the bay is San Francisco sparkling in the sunlight (If I was less lazy I could have done it better justice haha)

Love the faces on your people in these--

Wish I had the bike, instead of my old beater road-bike with the broke shifter....

Thank you! Ahh, yeah having a bike that works well, shifts smooth, light weight, etc, really enhances riding. To get a really nice new bike can cost a lot, but you can find some nice old/used ones on craigslist. Just make sure its in good working order, and it has readily serviceable components like most anything by shimano, campagnolo, or SRAM Just stay away from really really old stuff (more than 25 years) because its harder to repair/replace, or some no-name off brand shifters/derailers.

Great piece! Makes me a little sad that I haven't had time to get my Specialized Crossroads welded up so that I can ride again...

Thanks!! Oh no, what happened to your Specialized? Cracked frame I take it?

yep, cracked frame (really a clean split) at the rear triangle, where the lower arm meets the rear axle. I've been out for several days in California as of this comment posting and no less closer to having my bike repaired.

Oh man, I had to have a wisdom tooth pulled last year right before Thanksgiving, it was no fun. XP Great work as always! I especially like all the attention you give to backgrounds. I know it's not the focal point, but there is something really sweet about that area with the stone steps and building.

Nooo, right before the feasting holiday! That's no fun, but I guess a reason to eat more mashed potatoes and stuffing than usual (soft things) Backgrounds are super important to me, probably my architectural bias and a desire to create place. That stone stair/wall is based off a real one on Belvedere island, it is super cool! Honestly my drawing doesn't do it justice next to the real place It feels like some European hill/island town or something, a very cool place hidden in the bay area
