Love this piece, so much power and emotion. I think the unfinished looks works very well for this one, it adds to the mood. Love it!

I love the emotion to this , I read in the description that thats how you feel sometimes , I'd have to agree. Life is so mainstream and our lives are quite controlled , our freedom is found in our art. This is amazing work, I love the shading!

i think this is my favorite pencil sketch of yours!! i absolutely love how you captured the spirit of the horsey with the flying mane and the eyes and everything. even the "un-polished-ness" and the texture of the paper coming through really help emphasize the sense of wildness. the only critical comments i would make would be to lengthen the legs, and maybe to take a look at the ears. do you think he would have his ears pinned back?
love the piece!!!! !!!

fantastic. his eye is wild, which is perfect. and the mane is all over, and the muscles well-defined. however, i was looking at his legs, and they're so short! so well drawn, actually, that i thought at first they were proper, but i'm preeeetty sure they're a bit short. but all the same, fabulous capture of vavra.

Thanks for a great comment And yeah you're right, sadly the legs are too short, looking over the photo again I realised that. Thanks again for the somment, its always great when someone really 'says something' about the drawing All hail Vavra

your work on this is beautiful! i wish you had finished more of it. i feel like i should know where the title is from since i used to read a lot of horse books and anything to do with horses. but maybe i'm way off track.

Oooh nice! Glad you made it a Deviation, you probably hide all sorts of gorgeous work in Scraps. I'll put it this way. If I were lucky enough to have something like this I'd mat it, frame it, hang it in some prominent place where I could enjoy it every day. Probably with several layers of white and maybe one thin layer of graphite colored mat. (I just got my mat cutter! Still waiting for the boards, but yayyy! lol -- now I keep getting matting ideas when I see art I like!)

Lovely pencil work! I love the energy and emotion in it....definitely not something for scraps.

I don't see how this is a borderline scrap. It does not have a very polished feel to it, true, and perhaps that is what you are objecting to, but I think a more polished rendition would ultimately diminish the raw energy and emotion that you seem to be trying to convey here. The rough edges enhance that sense of freedom. I like it. I think this is truly great just as it is. I am glad that you chose to present it as a deviation. Too many of us would have missed it otherwise.

Well, "Strike For Liberty" is a song preformed by Jason Schreiber and Tara Dirst. But It's also a chapter in Anna Sewells 'Black Beauty'. Very nice horse btw.

Hmm, only one thing. The front legs look too short

Utlah In reply to deadlights11 [2005-06-09 20:08:33 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I noticed that.. doubt I'll fix it as rubbing it out would most likely ruin it, but I was peeved when I noticed

Combination of 2B regular pencil, and a fine propelling pencil with HB lead in it
