Description When solar-mass stars die, they typically expel their outer layers into the interstellar medium as elegant and colorful planetary nebula.  The layers thrown out into space are rich in heavier elements such as carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen.  Obviously, these elements are important to life as we know it here on Earth, but very likely to all life throughout the universe.  Over time, future generations of stars and planets become enriched by these heavier elements and become even more capable of supporting life.  I've named this scene "The Breath of Life" because we now know that it was a star much like this billions of years ago that seeded our own solar nebula with the necessary ingredients for life and us.  It wasn't our Sun that gave us the carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, and iron within each of us, but long dead stars that forged these elements within their cores, then expelled these vital elements out into space as they ended their lives.

For this scene I used Photoshop to create the nebula using brushes made of clouds I photographed myself.  I also used Vue to create the planet based on procedural terrains.  The final scene was composed in Photoshop.  If you like this image leave a message and tell me what you think!

Magnificent ! I don't if you speak a litlle french or not but your art makes me think to this quote : " « On m'a dit : Tu n'es que cendres et poussières. On a oublié de me dire qu'il s'agissait de poussières d'étoiles. " This quote came from a book of Hubert Reeves.

I love it. Our lifes and troubles mean nothing on this Universe. However, it is all connected somehow, and I think if we see outside of the box we might see the web that connect us with it all.
