Sighing, you closed your laptop. You just finished skyping your boyfriend of four years, who was named Alfred. You loved seeing him, especially that goofy smile of his. It would be even better if it was in person. Alfred was deployed in Afganistan, and has been for the past two years. Due to the situations in the country, he rarely has time to come home. Despite this, it made you proud; he made you proud. He always said that he wanted to become a marine and protect his country. It was his life-long dream, and it finally came true five years ago.

You and Al met when he was off duty in the military. He'd already been in there a year, you found out. The first thing he told you was that he was going to be away sometimes. And now was one of those times. The last time he was home was 6 months ago, and it was beginning to wear down on you. Seems like skype calls aren't cutting out like they used to.

You leaned back, taking a deep sigh. Looking up at the ceiling, you thought about what Alfred had said. "Don't worry, I'll be home sooner than you think. I promise, [Name]."

"Hmmm... He'll be home sooner than I think..." Your mind wandered aimlessly as you stretched. You took a deep breath, the familiar feeling of sleepiness approaching. You rubbed your eyes and looked at the time. 4:00 AM. These late night skype calls were starting to take a toll on your body. Obviously, the time zones are different, so chatting isn't as easy as it seems. You got up off your bed and stretched once more, looking towards your laptop.

"Might as well put it up for today." You said, picking it up and placing it on your dresser. You looked up and saw yourself in the mirror. Dark circles and bags were under your eyes. "I couldn't look anymore worse for wear.." You thought, yawning and rubbing your eyes once more. "I hope he's alright over there." You thought, thinking of Alfred's smile. You couldn't bear to even think about him being gone, so you tried your best to push it away. But every now and then, you would think; "What if something happens?" or "What if he gets killed?". You always had these 'What if?" questions, but you never knew the answer. Truthfully, it was great that you didn't know the answer. It meant that nothing had happened.

Turning around, you crawled into bed. You lightly pulled up the covers, and soon drifted into a soft, relaxing sleep. However, the sleep was short lived. A couple hours into the wonderful sleep, you felt a strong arm wrap itself around you. You started tensing up, instantly thinking the worst case scenario. Just before you went into panic mode, a deep familiar voice reassured you.

"Don't worry, it's me [Name]." The voice was none other than Alfred's. You turned your body around to look at him.

"A-A-A-Alfred!" you stuttered. Your voice choking up. You wrapped your arms around his neck and snuggled into his chest. A cute chuckle vibrated in his chest.

"I told ya I'd be home soon, didn't I?" he asked, smirking down at you. You just laid there, flabbergasted.

"I'm glad you're home," Between your words you reached up and pecked him on the nose. "Alfie~" Alfred smirked once more, and kissed you full on the lips. In a swift move, he was hovering over you, supporting his weight with his hands.

"Well then, let me show you how much I've missed you.."

After that enticing morning, you and Alfred thought it would be best to just be lazy all day, which meant to stay in bed. You didn't mind, though. You were planning on staying home today anyway. You and Al laid there together, trading soft touches, kisses, and words.

"I love you so much..." Alfred whispered into your hair. He kissed your head softly, and entwined his fingers in yours. He ran his fingers through your hair with his free hand. You smiled and snuggled your face into his muscular chest.

"I love you too." Your fingers traced little circles on his tanned skin. Minutes passed, every second of silence was bliss. You didn't need to say anything else to show that you loved him more than life itself. You looked into his blue orbs with yours. Your [E/C] eyes were sparkling with admiration.

"Things are getting better back in Afganistan." Alfred broke the silence, and continued on. "We've been getting letters lately, and headquarters are about to pull us out of the country.." He looked down at you, hope in his eyes.

"Does that mean...?"

Al nodded his head, and finished what you were about to say. "I'm gonna be home soon, for a long while." His grin got bigger when he saw the happiness spread on your face.

"Really?!" Your eyebrows arched in suprise. He nodded his head again. You hugged his warm, muscular body tighter than you ever have before. "I'm so glad..." you breathed into his chest.

"I'm glad too." Al kissed your forehead, nose, and lips. He looked at you for a moment. You could see in his eyes that he was in deep thought about something. "How about we go out tomorrow to celebrate?" he asked, pulling you out of your thoughts.

"Sure, but where?" Tomorrow was a holiday, so there weren't many options open.

"Don't worry babe, you know why?"

You sighed. You knew where this was going. "Why?"

" 'Cause I'm the hero!" He exclaimed. You rolled your eyes. Meanwhile he continued with his 'hero' speech. "Aaaand, your hero got reservations for [favorite restaurant], and the back room is all for us!" He hugged you tighter, his blue eyes shimmering.

"I wouldn't mind that..." A delicate pink blush dusted your cheeks while your eyes darted to the side. You could hear - and feel - a gleeful chuckle come from Al. You and Al spent the rest of the day in bed, talking, kissing, and other things.

You spent the morning and afternoon getting ready with Al. Well, more like just the afternoon, since you and he did kind of goof off in bed this morning. This date was important for the both of you. For you, it was because this would be the first date you've had with Al in six months. For Al, it meant that he would be able to spend time with you.

With the last finishing touches, you looked up at Al. His eyebrows arched as he strolled towards you. He wrapped his arms around your waist, and pecked you on the lips.

"You look beautiful." He kissed you once more, meanwhile your blush spread. "Are you ready to go?"

"Y-yeah, let's go." Al nodded in confirmation, and you both headed out the door.

You and Al finally arrived at [favorite restaurant], and headed to the back. Al pulled out the chair for you, and then took a seat himself. Your favorite food was already on the table.

"Wow, you really out-did yourself Al!" you spoke while digging into your plate. Alfred smiled at your enthusiasm.

"I'm glad you think so." Alfred starting to eat, and discussed what he did in the military. But he didn't tell you all of it, and he didn't detail most things. There were gruseome experiences when you're in the military, and Al didn't want to expose you to some of the things he's seen and did. He did what he thought was best, and didn't tell you. Besides, the General said not to disclose too much, even if it was the closest and most trustworthy people.

"How long are you going to be home?" You asked, instantly regretting it. You always did whenever you asked. His answering meant you would know the deadline of his stay, and you weren't fond of the feeling.

"U-uhmm.. About seven or eight months." You sighed in relief. "At least he'll be home for a long while.." You thought, taking another bite of your delicious food.

"That's good." Al smiled at you once more, showing his relief as well. You and Al quickly changed the subject, and the whole mood changed. You talked about what you were going to do together, what you did while he was in the military, positive things. At the end of dinner, you reached up and hugged Al.

"Thanks for the dinner, Al. And welcome back." You kissed his cheek and smiled at him. Before you could turn around to head to the car, he grabbed your wrist. You looked back and stood in front of him, not saying a word. Al dug into his pant pocket, and pulled out a small, velvet box. He got on one knee, and began his speech.

"[Name], you're the most important thing to me. I'd do anything and everything for you. You're the most beautiful human being I've ever seen, inside and out. You're smart, kind, caring, and you're as sweet as a southern belle. You're so gorgeous, and sometimes I wonder if I deserve you. [Name], I love you so much, and I don't think you'll ever know. This is the only way I know how to show you how much I do, and how much I miss you when I'm gone. I want to be reminded of you everyday, and I want to have a part of you with me. So, [F/N] [L/N], will you marry me?" Al's eyes were glazed over, and full of love.

"Y-yes!" You squeaked. You knelt down to hug and kiss him. He got up with you in his arms. You hugged him once more. You wrapped your arms around his neck and nudged your face into the crook of his neck. You could feel his warm breath tickle your neck, and you wished that you could be in this moment forever, never to be changed nor moved. Quietly, you whispered something into his ear.

"Al.."
