So, there's a little game called Minecraft and you may or may not have heard of it. It's basically LEGOs but for gamers (it's even more LEGO that the actual LEGO games) and monsters come out at night and try to kill you. Over at minecraftforum.com, there's a texture pack section that allows you to completely change the way Minecraft looks with literally hundreds of packs to choose from. One of those packs (going on two) is actually one of the main reasons I got into Minecraft in the first place, and I've rarely (if ever) taken it off, is made by Ray Frenden and it's absolutely amazing ( 1) [link] 2) [link] ). I certainly don't mean to take any credit for this pack or anything else, I just made some fan art!

Having said that, I was bored on a rainy afternoon (read: Yesterday) getting ready to play Minecraft when I noticed the desktop icon bouncing in my dock. "Hm," I thought, "I wish there were a way to make that look like Frenden's grass block..." Then it dawned on me: I have Photoshop. I could make it look like Frenden's grass block. So, I did. After some trial and error, I hopefully made it look like his style of grass block if it were diagonal (I used an in-game screen shot and two up-res'd versions of his top and side-blocks for reference). I also re-created his old-old bedrock texture for the background of the preview image.

I've included a .zip file which contains many different versions of the icon (.icns, .ico, .tif, .png), so everyone should be happy, the .psd, the .hob file (if anyone else has that program and wants to check it out for some reason), and even the preview image and its .psd. Actually, I think a folder containing the references I used is in there, too. Basically, I've covered every base imaginable, even those un-imaginable.

Photoshop CS4; about an hour-long session of trial, error and pentooling.
