Description
Badgerkit, despite the efforts of the queens, just wouldn’t settle down. Every time Sorrelfang lay him into his nest to sleep, he would scramble out within minutes, energy just buzzing through him. This occurrence wasn’t unusual, but the tortoiseshell mother still couldn’t hide her frustration. She had her two kits to put to bed as well, but every time Badgerkit got up, so did Sandkit and Swallokit. The curious siblings just couldn’t help wanting to be involved.

“Where are you going Badgerkit? Can I come?” Sandkit excitedly tumbled out of his nest that his mother had so tenderly prepared for him, to join his black and white friend at the entrance of the den. Only a few steps behind him was Swallowkit, who was fighting off the tiredness in hopes of some excitement.

“I heard something!” Badgerkit exclaimed excitedly, and probably a bit louder than necessary. “It’s probably a whole swarm of foxes, and we need to defend our clan! Come with me into battle!” Giving his strongest battlecry, he began to charge out of the den, but before he even set a single paw outside, a pair of teeth grabbed him by the nape. “Now now Badgerkit, you know we’ve talked about this. You can play all you want during the day, but once the sun sets, you have to go to bed.” Sorrelfang continued holding the kit, as he wiggled in frustration.

“But sleeping is boring! Can’t I stay up just a little longer? Pleaaaase?” Letting out a sigh, the tired mother was about to argue more, but then a familiar white figure arrived at the den. Whitefire had heard the commotion, and came to assist the queens. Grumbling about how noisy they were, he turned his attention to Badgerkit, as Sorrelfang set him back down. “Listen here kid, I know you think sleeping is a waste of time, but let me tell you about the time that sleeping actually saved this clan.” Sharing a brief glance with a clearly relieved Sorrelfang, Whitefire entered the den and made his way over to the empty nest. Once he was comfortable, he waited for his tiny audience to join him, before beginning.

“So you see, many moons ago, when I was just a little older than you are now, a cat came to our clan telling us of how another clan was plotting to wipe us out, and our leader decided that no cat would sleep until we found out who, and stopped them...”
