Abilities//
~Hau can shapeshift into a fox whenever he pleases. His fox form resembles a maned wolf that has frosty blue fur with darker navy points. As he only has a few tails, he is not very powerful and can only command a handful of the typical kitsune abilities. When he is transformed his abilities are significantly stronger.
~He can create blue foxfire at will. These are small flames that do not emit heat, only light.
~Hau has a high tolerance for cold weather and freezing conditions.
~He can create an aura of cold around himself similar to what you would expect from a ghost. He often does this unconsciously when he’s upset or depressed.
~Hau can instantly freeze any moisture within a limited distance. This can be moisture in the air or standing water. In his fox form he has a greater range and is able to create ice with no source moisture whatsoever. This draws more heavily on his own power however, and can burn him out much faster.
~Hau can possess other living beings within close range, the duration of which is limited by his own strength and the ability of the host to fight back. The stronger the host, either willfully or magically, the shorter the amount of time Hau can possess them, and a suitably strong host can cast him out or prevent him from possessing altogether. While possessing, Hau can only use the abilities he normally has in his human form. However, if the host has supernatural abilities Hau typically has access to those (though using them may shorten his possession time).

Weaknesses//
~When transformed he manifests a hoshi no tama, a small ball of light. It hovers above him and appears to others in close proximity to Hau just like a second moon in the sky. If one were to reach out for it, though, they would find it within reach to take. It is not visible within buildings but is always visible outside. Any harm that comes to this ball means injury or even death for Hau and if someone were to take it, Hau would do anything in his power to get it back.
~Hau can be slow to resort to using force, even to defend himself.
~Hot weather affects him more than the average person and he is prone to heatstroke in even moderately hot conditions.
~Though kitsune are perfectly capable of talking in fox form Hau was separated from his family before learning how leaving him with a communication barrier in that form.
~Certain (as yet unidentified) chemicals can force him to change in one direction or the other.
~Overuse of his abilities can cause painful migraines and, in extreme cases, coma or death.

Personality//
Unlike many of his kind who live to trick humans, Hau’s naturally sympathetic and desires to help people. He doesn’t appreciate those who are elusive, lie or have something to hide and he’s not skilled at trying to decipher hidden or double meanings. He has an easy smile and placid demeanor that makes him easy to approach but it’s only surface deep.
Underneath, he is insecure and often contemplating what can go wrong in any given situation. The abandonment by his birth family affected him deeply. He will unconsciously tailor his actions to what he thinks other people will consider most favorable. He has a tendency to be a little paranoid, doubt other people's sincerity, and view negative reactions as a slippery slope toward what he fears most - rejection. As a result, Hau doesn’t typically form deep bonds with people, preferring to keep most at a friendly but polite distance. However, a little kindness can go a long way with him.
Hau is a curious being at heart and likes to investigate any new thing he finds. Given how sheltered his upbringing was, he finds many things new and worthy of investigation.

History//
Hau was born in Japan in the Iya valley on the island of Shikoku. Even in Japan kitsune are rare, blue ones even more so, making Hau and his family barely more than myth. Despite that novelty, Hau was abandoned by his family when he was still a very young cub. After being chased out of the woods by dogs, he was found in his human guise by a local hunter who turned him over to police. And, being unable to locate his nonexistent human family, Hau was placed into the foster care system.
Though many children find the foster system to be a difficult part of their lives, Hau lucked out with his adoptive family. They had immigrated from Hawaii to Japan and brought their local customs, stories and foods with them. They never had a problem with Hau's strange looks or behavior, even though they never learned what he really is, and Hau came to love them as his own and found that he actually enjoyed being human. He even planned for his future, following in his uncle's footsteps and setting his sights on the local police academy.
None of this is to say he ever forgot about his birth family. Even after moving with his new family back to the United States and to Hawaii, he searched for word of them. In the process he became well acquainted with the local supernaturals and discovered the existence of a supernatural black market on the web. This black market traded in supernatural body parts the way a normal black market would sell rhino horn or elephant tusk. One of the listings was for a blue kitsune tail. Furious, Hau dropped everything and tracked the seller to Wathais. As he doesn’t intend to stay long term, Hau never bothered to register with the WDSA, but he’s had trouble pinning down exactly where his target is in the sprawling city.
Searching the city took longer than he anticipated however. After losing his job and running out of money, he moved in with new friend and local doctor, Jedidiah. Settling in for a longer stay, he met a wide variety of Wathais' citizens, including several members of the WDSA. These agents would prove to be a vital help when he finally found the traffickers' base. It was there he discovered gruesome evidence of the blue kitsune and a cracked star ball, which he stole from the scene and kept. For a long time afterward, he was haunted by dreams of his lost family.
Eventually Hau became entangled with a WDSA mission to stop a malicious mage and his cult who had kidnapped local supernaturals, attacked WDSA headquarters, and posed an imminent global threat. As a result, he gained one of the things he’d long dreamed of - a second tail. He doesn't believe it's a reward for his accomplishments, but he has other suspicions. Nevertheless, he also gained the ability to possess others, a kitsune skill he had been missing thus far. Feeling stronger, he finally decided to cross another goal off his list and join the WDSA as a bronze rank agent.
