I don't use references or tutorials from other sites...but some I have in my gallery (you can find Tutorial folder on the left side)

so, you fill in the grayscaled shading first, then you add the color in? i'm wondering how you fill the color over the shading, actually. thanks in advance!

Yeah...at first I draw black and white, then I add colors. I add
them like that:
At first I make Normal layer, and then I change its mode (so it's
not Normal any more). At this drawing I had Overlay layer and
Color layer...and there I added colors.
