I was already thinking in Hetalia terms when watching the ceremony, so seeing the Germans in this outfit... I laughed because I immediately pictured him in it. I imagine these would be some of the reactions he would get.
In case it wasn't clear, the lower panel is referencing the suspected political message behind the German uniforms. And Russia's not mad that he thinks Germany is supporting gay rights, I just imagine he wouldn't appreciate the passive-aggressive messages (poor thing just wants everything to go smoothly).

In all seriousness, though, I thought the anti-gay stance in my own country was bad (it still is, but you know).
Homosexuals have it pretty lousy in Russia.
There, it's basically bigotry beneath a shitty "Think of the children!" (TM) excuse.
The USA tries to use the Bible excuse more.

I really, really love how you've addressed what every Hetalia fan must have thought when they saw the German team coming out in these (Or back in October? when the uniform was released to the public)

OH goodness, no one is posting my comic without permission, don't worry. The tumblr that posted it, valethra, is my own tumblr (if ai had a premium account I would change my username here to that too). I drew the comic and posted it in both places, but I try to keep the comments short and I don't tend to link to my DA BC I feel like it's a bit attention-hungry (BC I mean they already reblogged/liked it, I don't need them to go do the same for another website). :3
I didn't personally know about the outfit until I saw them walk out at the opening ceremony. I purposefully keep from seeing them beforehand because I like the initial 'WOW' surprise factor of seeing everyone come out in their spiffy new uniforms~

I think these Olympics should be called "The Passive-Agressive Games."
First that last snowflake that didn't open, then Germany's outfit. Each circle represents a specific continent. The blue stands for Europe, the yellow one for Asia, the black is for Africa, the green one is for Oceania, and the last one--the red one--stands for America (the continent).
We all know about those problems Russia and America are having with each other, right?

I only brought it up after seeing this really hilarious Tumblr post that somebody did. America was sort of crying and telling Russia that he did it on purpose, and Russia was crying a little bit too, saying that it really had been a mistake.
It was really cute, but kind of sad too!

So actually the outfit represents the landscape of Sochi.
I once read that in a German magazine. However, this could
be interpreted as a criticism again when you know how the Olympic city
of Sochi has been build.
That was actually the true idea behind the outfit.

Yeah and also something about the uniforms from the Munich games during the 70's. I'm well aware of that, just to make it clear- the NBC version of the opening ceremony actually cleared that up the second the team came out. But this joke is more directed at the fact that THEY FELT THE NEED to clear it up right away. The misunderstanding was obvious and a lot of people thought/still do think it has something to do with the recent controversy. So I just imagined a situation where Russia confronts Germany like "WTF are you trying to say man" out of fear of getting in trouble with his boss, or that maybe Russia was just surprised to see him in something so colorful but the announcers had made Germany nervous so he ASSUMED it was something like that.
