Description
In 2125 Blight Runners in the employ of the Shan discovered a series of artifacts in the Starfall Zone, at the bottom of a crater lake. The Vortex Moonstones.
Experimentation on the stones reveals that they can empower biological entities but the frail forms of the Shan cannot handle it for long. Their human hosts on the other hand can be granted a bodily transformation, turning them into sleeper monsters under their control.
For 50 years the Shan would use their moonstruck monsters to expand their influence, eliminating threats and snatching more influential hosts.
Not all the Shan were content with the new direction the priests of Azathoth were leading them on. Researcher Dz'kn-zuzz and their host, Dr Bhavana Mishra, believed that they should be stopped. Stealing all but the Green Stone of Xaulon, Dr Mishra barely escaped with her life. Dz'kn-zuzz stayed behind to run interference and supply their friend with information on her hunters.
While on the run, Dr Mishra made the acquaintance of a small group of young nomads. When the moonstruck found them she was forced to use the Vortex Moonstones to save all of their lives. The Shan had been too afraid to unleash their full power, as they did not want hosts that might be strong enough to rebel. In that moment of desperation, Dr Mishra and the nomads became so much more.
They became the Z-Gyre Rangers!

That's right everyone. My lovecraftian universe goes through a bit of a tokusatsu phase! Seth the Ghoul grew up in the 1990s and was so, so jazzed for this to happen.
This is just their base forms, they can mutate horribly into monsters and kaiju instead of summoning mecha. I'll be drawing those later, along with their civvie forms.
