W... Whats this? I'm actually doing Lion King fanart? I never ever did Lion Art so this is my first venture. I referenced an image of scar from the original film for the face shape but referenced as many bodies as possible for the body. I'm not super confident with legs so they look a little wonky. I'll probably have to study them a little bit more.
This design was by which I expanded and edited on. There are very small changes for personal preferences, such as the tuft, a little softness in the markings and extending the head stripe. Anyway here's Ianai's history, I'm sorry if this makes little sense historically speaking, I've barely gone into TLK fanon or anything too extensive canon!
Laini
Her name was originally an insult when she was a child for her compassionate and openness, which was considered unfit for the Outlands. She was berated by her parents for looking after a flower in secret which they saw as a waste of effort and pointless with lessons her that kindness is a type of weakness. She attempted to be as hardy and as savage as the other cubs, her new found callousness was proven to be be thin and easily broken.
The scars on her face were inflicted by her siblings when she was a teen. During training, Laini was instantly blamed for the failure of a hunting exercise, the scars over her face come from her brothers (Mawe & Chuma) while her Sister (Fedha) ripped at her ear as their own version of sibling punishment.
As an adult, she remained aloof and somewhat distant to the rest of the Pride, her presence in the pride was simply a means for her to live, often finding herself leaving for the outskirts of the Pride to be alone. In her privacy and away from the prying eyes of her now adult siblings, she continued her project of protecting a small bed of flowers in the Outlands.
Lanai is an Outlander, therefore her level of 'kindness' is measured differently. She isn't as openly friendly or readable as most Pridelanders, but she certainly has a greater tolerance than most Outlanders. She's immediately distrusting of others but remains amicable towards strangers. She appreciates nature and has some understanding of the circle of life.
