Never enough! I really love the reds. I'm so used to seeing mostly orange. Reds are so pretty! If I ever have another garden, I will grow some. I also love nasturtiums, which come in oranges and yellows and reds. So sturdy. I still remember when I was unable to get one season to replant the bulbs and annuals, and the garden slowly died away... but the nasturtiums hung in there, to cheer me... as did ornamental strawberry... a primrose or two... cherry tomatoes reverting to the wild... in that first home I owned. In the last place that I lived with the ex/son, the herbs were the last to go, and dill around a patio post, straggly white allysum up on the bank, and a dainty scentless thornless rose bush that was there before we moved in, and the nasturtiums... other things... I worked so hard to bring back the lawn, to add some foliage and flowers... and it all died away so fast... weeds overtook the place... symbolic of the marriage that had come to an end... as I finally lived alone before moving away.

I got to see quite a bit of orange CA poppies (our state flower) this spring. There were clumps everywhere, especially along the many roads here that don't have sidewalks. It's amazing how they grow in terrible soil that looks like it's been bone dry for long time, yet there they are. Maybe not as lush with green in those spots, but the blossoms are lush.
Somehow the garden nasturtium I grew in abundance in all my yards were not as good-tasting as I had hoped. Quite peppery. If picked when plentifully watered and when young, they weren't so potent. I don't recall the bees loving them any more than other flowers, though I could see why they would. I think there was a butterfly that liked them, might have laid some eggs, think there may have been a caterpiller or inchworm or two? I don't recall aphids. They seemed quite resilient to what other plants weren't. Perhaps they had naturalized well enough, as they reseeded themselves not just year after year, but all throughout each year. And with much neglect, in spots I didn't get water on them very often. Sometimes they'd be so neglected they'd appear to outright die, but soon as more water, up shot some more tender sprouts. They are such a cheerful plant. Faithful.

I remember that in some seed mixtures labelled "flowers for insects" there's always nasturtium.
Some say that nasturtium does even keep parasites away from bees.
Some sorts seem to be less spicey than others.
I don't have these blossoms this year though. Maybe next year.
I don't feel like gardening at the moment.

Geez ... now that you're saying it.
I totally forgot about the potted chrysanthemums. I wanted to have some this year.
I have no luck with marigold. One year I had put seed of the medical marigold in the garden, but the bugs and worms just displaced it everywhere. It never really grew.
As for the garlic, I have never tried to plant it, but one day I'll try for sure. I guess with our soil it will be quite difficult. When we were on a trip with the kids last week, we visited a herbal garden too. The woman in charge told us that you can use the leaves - I never did either.

Remember the scene with the poppies? I take it the ones near you are not the narcotic type?

I used to enjoy drinking much more, but not as much anymore. I suppose drinking makes most company more bearable. XD. That is why people do it- a social lubricant.

If one has to drink to bear company, this must be the wrong company.

Yeah that is true. It can be hard to find people that have interests that are not mundane.
