Just the other day I watched a series of Superjail episodes. And I have to admit it is addictive and the warden is pretty dang funny. The ultraviolence parts can be a little too much for me though still (particularly the ones involving animals) But my initial replusion of the show has waned.

Ah yes. Of course, the violent scenes are just a part of the show and something the creators really like to add obviously, but it you were to ignore all that I think the 5 minutes of the episodes that are storyline are pretty great and clever!

Yeah I agree now. I mean clever enough for what the cartoon is meant to be.
I think the violence thing is jsut a holdover from my generation who are the guys who made this cartoon. When I was young in the early 90's, shock was a HUGE thing that defined media, especially comedy. Kind of a reaction to political correctness. I mean South Park, Beavis and Butthead, Family Guy, the Tom Green show etc.. that all came out of my generation's thing for shock and 'yeah we went there!' I never really liked it to be honest. But its dying away i think.
Its there in Superjail, but by this point, the shock thing is not so infamous as it was and has been played out. Thats why they tend to focus on the 'psychedellic' violence. The obscene or offensive statements are there too, but again they dont play it up too much because thats allready been done to death. It certainly is no South Park in that regards.
I mean there is some homophobic of just kinda queer-ignorant stuff. But so far it has not been as severe as that made by Family guy and South Park and for me I can deal with it. The real meat of what is good here is the weird style, the strange characters and their interactions with heach other. Watching Jacknife and Jailbot's adversary become a friendship... watching the Warden have freakouts and loose his cool... then reclain authority.... thats been pretty amusing and enjoyable.

Yeah the 90s were able to get away with a lot more stuff. I mean, if you ever watch Rin and Stimpy, it's just about the most inappropriate and traumatizing show ever. But yeah I get you.
As far as all the gay stuff in it, I love the approach that they make the Warden take where he really just doesn't care. I mean, he tries to set them up their own honeymoon and everything and gets really excited when he finds out they're getting married and I think that's cool.
I think some parts of the show are surprisingly deep and serious which makes it all the better. You see things like Warden being abused as a child, struggling with his inner demons, and so on. It really helps with the atmosphere.

You and me both, sista. (Coincidentally, I've also recently cosplayed as Warden for Naka Kon 2015 ^^ )
Will it help that I've finally started writing Chapter 8 of Upward Spiral? ^^
